Some of This; Some of That 7/12/20

Hello, Friends and Readers.  How are things for you during these past few weeks.  We're starting to stay home more as the COVID-19 cases start to go up again.  And being home I try to keep to my 15 Minutes to Stitch challenges but some days I just don't have the energy.  So I've decided to change my reporting way just so I will DO it.  This week I did my stitching on 5 days so that's 83.33%  (my weeks are six days as Sundays I'm taking a rest) working in the sewing studio.  And that's my report - more simple than before and more likely for me to do it.

As to destashing,  I used a half yard to start binding my UFO.  Finally done quilting it!  That Crab Quilt Along I was doing has finished. Made four 6.5" blocks, so I used .612 yds this week. My YTD total is now 13.47 yds.   I decided to do a wall hanging in place of a bed quilt with a ton of little crabs.  You can go here to see what others were doing:  https://faithandfabricdesign.com/feeling-crabby-crab-quilt-quilt-along .

Here's the center of my version.  I still need to add two borders.  It will be a challenge because I want to only use what I have in the stash.

I'll see what I find - have so many places to look.

That's it for today.  Hope to sandwich a baby quilt for St. Anne's but nothing happening there as we can't meet yet.  Stay safe and wear a mask, please.

I'm linking to 15 Minutes to Stitch, Design Wall Monday - cuz that crab collection is still on my DW, and Sunday Stash Report.  See you there.

Some of This; Some of That

Let's start with the positive stuff. I was able to put in 15 Minutes to Stitch every day this week because I'm still sheltering in place.  I only go out about once every ten days usually just to use the car.  Surprisingly, most days it doesn't bother me to be home with DH doing things around the house, or reading, or quilting, or gardening, or working on a jigsaw puzzle,
Here's the one we just finished.  You know it's hard when you have to use a magnifying glass to check color changes.

or a little housework. Notice what came last.  Some days I wonder if this is what (in a very loose way) cloistered nuns feel when they dedicate themselves to a cell for days on end.  I'll have to research that. My numbers now are

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/May = 15/16 days
15 minute days/2020 = 121/137 days
Success rate = 88.32%

Now for the destashing.  I made two masks for my BFF.  Here they are:

They only took 20 minutes each, and used up .39 yd.  I also made a "4 in a 4 in a 4" as shown on Em's Scrapbag.  That used up 0.53 yd.

Then I made three  more crabs - I'm up to 4 - for another 0.17 yd. So my new total is 11.23 yds I may have to halve my desired total for the year to 50 yards to come anywhere near a goal.

So what else is new? Well that scrap snapper baby quilt top is a flimsy now and off to the "to be sandwiched pile".  You can see my four crabs above it.

I'm still quilting that UFO and hand stitching my facing on my No Greater Love quilt.  I should be done with that this evening as I don't have much more to do - less than one edge.

Take care, be safe - please continue to wear a mask and socially distance, now especially as we move slowly toward normal.  This is a ever mutating bug and it will be a while til we have a vaccine.

Blessing to you all.  I'm linking to Design Wall Monday, Faith and Fabric Quilt AlongSunday Stash Report, 15 Minutes to Stitch, and Oh, Scrap!.  Come on by.

Hello, friends.  My top is done! As a pattern tester for Faith and Fabric I was thrilled to make this Lenten quilt top which was just right for my expanding liturgical series of quilts. It really spoke to me. I'm naming it No Greater Love. The on-point blocks remind me of the hymn "O Sacred Head Surrounded" when we sing "yet angel-hosts adore thee, and tremble as they gaze." If you'd like to hear the hymn here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XppXi_jZKWk

I am now quilting it and have gotten this far:

Working on Golgotha today.

I quilted every day last week so 15 Minutes to Stitch is on track.  Made 7 blocks for the Scrap Snappers so I'm good with that also and used 2.0 yards for my destashing what with the backs of a quilt and a table runner and those scrap blocks..  I also finished my blog hop entry for
Starts tomorrow and there will be prizes. My day is March 4th with two others sharing their work.  I'm looking forward to what book the ladies picked and what they made.  Come back Wednesday to see.

I did finally put that Kitty Cucumber baby quilt together, and it now resides on my design wall. I'll be working on the outside border when I take a break from quilting the top.

Just love these kitties!

I'm linking to Oh, Scrap!, 15 Minutes To Stitch 2020Design Wall Monday, and Sunday Stash Report.  Have a blessed week.

Some of This; Some of That 10/6/19

Sandwiched a baby quilt top - used 1.25 yds.  Finished a WIP top - used 0.25 yds.  Worked on the Seedling Quilt QAL - used 0.25 yds.  My new YTD total is 49.09 yards destashed.

Worked every day this week on quilty stuff!  So I know I have 7 of 7 days this week (100%) for 15 Minutes To Stitch 2019. And also 5 of 5 days so far this month (100%). I have no idea where I"m at for the year as I missed so many weeks of reporting.

Now for the finished WIP:
This is a pattern from Kay Mackenzie's Scrap-Applique Playground. I've had the book forever. When Lori of Humble Quilts chose to do a String Along, I decided I'd use some strings to make this sign for my sewing room.

Here's what I have left of those strings:
I'm thinking of using them to bind this wall hanging. Do you find it hard to make them disappear? I do.

Linking to Oh, Scrap, Can I Get a Whoop, Whoop?, Sunday Stash, and others (see my tab above). Have a productive, quilty week my friends. Blessings to all.

What with adding borders to three baby quilt tops and adding a row to another baby quilt top, I've used 1.31 yds from y stash - yeah! Net YTD out: 45.81 yards.

I've sat down a couple of times this week and hand stitched on my Anna's Garden block - just have a wee bit more to do. Got in three days of stitching. Then it's time to prep another to hand stitch during TV time.

Below I"m share some photos from my trip to Fort Collins.  It was too short. Next time I plan to add a day or two. What beautiful country! I fell in love with that high valley (9,000 - 10,000 ft).
a few hills, mostly gorgeous flat valley with the Rockies all around. c. goinmobyle.com
In Fort Collins we visited the beautiful CSU Annual Flower Trials Garden It's right in the middle of downtown and CSU.
Here's a panorama view I took.  And a couple of favorites!
How's this for a petunia?

What are you going to work on this last week of August?

I'm back from last Summer 2019 Vacation.

and almost nothing done with a needle.  What I did do was hand stitch a sleeve to this 2008 quilt.
It's my china plate quilt about 45" by 55".  It would have been longer,  but I forgot to put a white strip above each row of dishes.   Didn't notice till the top was all done.  I quilted the letter N in each center of the plates.  This was a quilt as you go project. Now it can hung on a wall.

So of course my stitching time has changed very little. Here goes:

15 minute days/week = 2/7 days
15 minute days/August = 12/17 days
15 minute days/2019 = 165/231
Success rate = 71.43%

Destashed .03 yds with that sleeve, so YTD total is now 44.56 yards. I'm linking to Sunday Stash, 15 Minutes to Stitch, and Slow Sunday Stitching.  Hope you did better than I. PS had a great time in Colorado - will report on that this Thursday.  Blessings,

Some of This; Some of That 7/28/19

Coming out of a funk and a very bad reaction to a Shingles shot.  Haven't used the stash much - just made a 9 x 12" block for .07 yd.  So YTD destashing is at 44.53 yards.  Hope I at least make it to half way to my goal by the end of summer.

15 minutes to Stitch in 2019 - I did get three days in this week.  Haven't a clue where I'm at really, so I'm going to guesstimate.
15 minute days/week = 3/7 days

15 minute days/July = 7/28 days

15 minute days/2019 = 139/208

Success rate = 67.00%
So my percentage has dropped way down in the last two months. But that's summer for you, and I've another month of it to go. I know already a week will be lost then - maybe this time I can take some hand work with me. Last time it just wasn't possible.

So here's the block I made:
Gwen Marston block representing Texas, c. 1996 seen in a Patchwork 1996 magazine issue.
And I'm hand stitching again:
Showing the back as you can see better how far I've gotten - just started the corner leaf.  Worked on it while watching Netflix's Another Life - too dark a Sci Fi for me.

I'm linking to Slow Sunday Stitching , 15 Minutes to Stitch 2019Finished or Not Friday , and Sunday Stash.  Lastly, I'm going to plug my daughter's mini quilt giveaway - it's on Instagram under #6miniquiltsin6months2019.  Post a mini you've made at the end of the month and you'll be eligible for a prize.  That's what my block was going to be, but decided to send it to someone instead. I'm making another mini - just have to bind it now.  Blessings!

Some of This; Some of That

Back to the destashing.  In trying to empty some boxes filled with quilty stuff, I found 4.5 yards of fabric I am liberating from storage and to perhaps find its way into a project with another quilter.
That and the 1.41 yds from the start of a new baby quilt, 1 block and the back of another baby quilt gives me a YTD total of 46.51 yds destashed out of the 62 yards I need at this time to meet my year-end goal.  That's what happens when one spends over 2 months with little sewing and quilting.

Here's the block I made as mentioned above.  It is for my NSO (newly started object as of January) called Meadow by Michelle McKillop of the Jen Kenwell Designs Collective.
I now have a corner's worth.
Along with another one, I  have 4 of 24 applique blocks done.  What I do is make a copy of the template page and then cut out the pieces leaving the outline of the shape as my placing guide.  Here's a sample:
Makes it easy to assemble the block.

Off to prep a block from Anna's Garden.  That one is hand appliqued so I'll be working on it today.  Don't think I"ll get much more than start it.  I'm off to Colorado for another short trip to visit DS#2.
I'll try not to forget my smart phone this time so I can post a photo now and then.

I'm happy to report the temps are near normal again for a little while ( 98- 104 degrees).  So much better. I'll be linking to BOMs Away, Slow Sunday Stitching, Sunday Stash, Moving it Forward, and Main Crush Monday
Blessings to you all.

Some of This; Some of That

First the destashing:  1/4 yd for the binding of my Mod-Mod Sampler.  0.02 yd for my hexies; 0.07 for test blocks.  2.68 for Grace's quilt and 2.33 for a baby quilt.  This gives me  5.35 yards for this week.  My YTD total is now 25.37 yds of the 32 yds I should have used by now to meet my year end goal.  Getting closer.

Here's Grace's quilt.  Who is Grace?  My new DGD. She turned 3 April 20th.  This family photo was at her birthday party Sunday,  and she wasn't too happy as it was getting late for her.

The panel is from Pattern Jam.  When I saw it I knew it would be perfect for her. I'm linking to Monday Making, Sunday Stash and Moving it Forward.  Blessings as we start a new week.

Some of this; Some of that

Made a few purple HSTs for my RSC 2018 challenge.  These aren't sewn together yet as they need to be interspersed with future ones.
As to the destashing, I used 2 yards (yeah!) for a St. Anne's quilt, .04 yd for the units above, .01 yd for the tiny pinwheels, and .26 yd for the charity quilt for Share the Love. That's 2.31yds - Much better! YTD is now 6.74 yds. (I'll be reporting this at Sunday Stash - have you got numbers for us?)

For my Slow Sunday Stitching, I'm work on this for the week while watching Jeopardy.

What do you watch as you slow stitch?   Fat quarter giveaway still on. See last Friday's post.

I'm also linking with Sunday Stash

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
