WIP Wednesday

This is as far as I got with the first kit for the new charity quilt:

The strips for the fifth row of fabric were missing from the kit, so I've set this aside until I can get replacements from the kit assembler.

In the meantime, I started on the second kit.
I just need the top finished and then I'll hold til January when our guild is having a Free Motion Quilting workshop and  the attendees will practice on the sandwiched tops.

Design Wall Monday 5/16th

I have something new on my design wall and I can report that I've cut up a half yard of fabrics already for this week.  Here are my 4 patches that I'll probably use in a charity quilt.

Stop the quilting, I have to piece a charity top!  LOL - yes, I got a kit at our guild workshop and have to make the top asap.  So here are the blocks:
They are made of flannel.  The directions said we don't have to worry about the corners matching.  That is good as the pieces has so much give in this material.  I've got 5 of the 9 done, so it shouldn't be long before I can get back to Em's ufo.  I did get the two sections joined.  and you can see them below.  I'm liking how this looks.

A row of blocks



Here is my row of blocks for a soldiersangels quilt. We want to make 100 this year. The guild made 62 in 09. I figure if we make 8-9 a month we should reach that goal. This is machine applique - a method I want to work with this year to get better at it.
This measures 12/12 by 48 1/2" . Hope it has the Americana feel to it.
