Sunday's Some of This; Some of That

First the destash - bound a quilt, so there goes .25 yard of fabric out.  Also used 4 fat quarters for a new quilt. It's only the start of this quilt.  So out goes another yard.  Fabric wise, that's it because I've spent most of my time quilting two quilts this past week except for some hand stitching.  YTD total now 28.40 yards.

Here's the quilt I bound today. I showed the whole quilt in my previous post.
Showing the back and binding.
Ready for St. Anne's this Thursday

Here's the new quilt units for my first block of that new quilt:
Not squared up yet. The pattern says to wait till all block units are made.  Will be around 15 1/2" square.

Here's where I'm at on that UFO I"m quilting. What should I put in that outside border of the one partly done?

Really liking the whole cloth look on the back:
I've started the next round on my Bliss project - the two with green stripes. Hope to do more this week starting tonight during TV time.

Lastly for stitching time:
15 minutes stitching days/week = 7/7 days

15 minutes stitching days/Feb = 9/9 days
15 minutes stitching days/2019 =  39/40 days
Success Rate = 97.50%

That's it for this report. How are you doing. Have any quilty plans for this week?  I'm linking to Oh, Scrap!, Sunday Stash Report, 15 Minutes to Stitch 2019 and Design Wall Monday.  There are more linky parties under my tab Linky Parties.  Blessings, and I leave you with this thought:

New Design Wall

Some of you readers know that I was looking to redo my design wall.  Thank you to all who gave suggestions of what to use.  By far, most of you said to use flannel.  I did. Jo-Ann's had white solid flannel on sale, so I bought two yards, Then put it aside - 2 weeks of vacation started the next day. Now back, and able to continue my redo, I straighten the edges of my fabric - measures now 44 x 68.
And DH helped me staple it to my stash bookcase.
I use my design wall also as a cover for my stash to keep it from fading as across from it are two large south facing windows.  To try it out I started another St. Anne's scrap bag baby quilt top.
This also qualifies as a WIP as the blocks are made from scraps from other baby quilts from about 4 years ago. Not on my challenge list (that was a no show this month with all the vacationing), but Yeah!  another WIP top about to be done.  I still have another border to add to it to make it the 35 - 36" square required size.  I'll be linking to some parties - see the tab below the header for more fun quilt browsing.

What are you up to?

On my Design Wall

Besides the quilt top I was given (you can read about it on my previous Sunday post), I have these squares on my design wall:
They are log cabin blocks I am working on trying to find a use for all the solid strips of fabric that were donated to St. Ann's.  I'm using Jean Wright's Log Cabin Trim Tool.  See a video here .  This lets you make log cabin blocks fast without cutting all those strips - great for scrappy log cabin.  The strips have to be at least 1 1/2" wide; otherwise you can use any width. Check it out. Have 4 more rows to go on these.

What's on your design wall?  I'm heading over to Judy's Patchwork Times and Lyn's BOMs Away to see what they're up to.

Design Wall Monday - 4/22/13

I'm working on a St. Anne's baby quilt.  Cut up a panel and trying to make it more square. It would be nice if textile houses would make them closer to 36 by 42 instead of the 26 by 42 that they usually are.  Sometimes I find ones 42" square - that's great!, but not very often.

Am I the only one who feels that way? Any suggestions?

I'm linking over to Judy's Patchwork Times to see other's design walls. Have a wonderful day!

Design Wall Monday 6/20/11

My design wall this week is the bed of my sewing machine as I am just about finished quilting my May UFO.  It's the first time I've attempted feathers - and these aren't free hand - I'm using Golden Threads thin paper roll.  I used an old neddle to outline the motif and then I pin it over the block it will be in.  I then quilt it.  I"m using invisifil thread (100wt) in a light tan.  Have a ways to go and I'm finding its hard to go over a section a second time in quilting when the paper is in the way to see where you stopped.  Since this is my first time, I got lost sometimes in the line of sewing and had to go over a couple of places three times.  What this does is make it harder to take out the paper in those tiny places.  Where are my itty bitty pointy tweezers?  Here is what the back looks like:
Please tell me about your quilting adventures with a paper motif as a guide.  And be sure to go to the left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times button to see what others have on their design wall!

Design Wall Monday 6/13/11

These are still on my design wall, however I have only 4 to make and one to change and I will be able to set the blocks into a top.  These will have a 5" sashing between them.  Can you guess what will be the cornerstones?  First correct guess gets a fat quarter.

Go on over to my left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times button to see what others have on their wall.

WAYWO - what are you working on?

Design Wall 6/6/11

While I can't claim the fabric for this rag quilt as part of my stash report (it's not from my stash), I do have it on my design wall as it will be a 36" square charity quilt for members of St. Ann's Sewdality to finish. The flannel was donated by one of our ladies. This is folded so you can see the back and front (with unclipped seams).

Design Wall Monday 5/30/11

Yesterday, I finished the fourth charity quilt, but I'll talk about that tomorrow for Fabric Tuesday.  I was going to pull out my ufo I'm suppose to finish, then decided I really had to clean up my cutting/design wall area before it toppled over.  Well, got that done and wound up with a pile of scraps I found at the left side of the table. I should have taken a picture of it - it was so bad - but here it is CLEAN.  I may print out this photo to remind myself this can happen - LOL.  So once I'd folded and put away the fabric pieces - darn, the stash doesn't look so lean any more - I found myself with this pile of scraps.  Got out my ruler and before I knew it, I had piles of 2" , 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2" 4 and 5" pieces.  Put those away and all I had left were the odd ones out.  I then decided to make them into crumb blocks instead of stuffing them in the scrap box. Came out with 16 crumb blocks ala Bonnie Hunter.
I'm happy to report this is all I have left - not enough to make a block - yeah!  I don't mind adding these to the scrap heap.

Design Wall Monday 5/16th

I have something new on my design wall and I can report that I've cut up a half yard of fabrics already for this week.  Here are my 4 patches that I'll probably use in a charity quilt.

Design Wall Monday 4/18/11

I'm shortening curtains so all that's on my design wall is the scrap blocks that developed from my playing with a technique similar to one in Ms Solomon's book (see previous post to see what I'm talking about).  I learned that this version is good but doesn't work well with big novelty fabrics but will probably work well with  prints or directional fabric.  I have to try those next.  Here they are:

Design Wall Late or rather Fabric Tuesday

I forgot to post this on Design Wall Monday, so I'm posting it on Fabric Tuesday.  If you're the first to guess what kind of quilt I"m making, I'll send you 2 fat quarters.  Be sure to leave your email address in your comment if you use anonymous.

For some great eye candy be sure to click on the buttons on my left sidebar to see what's new at Judy's Design Wall Monday and Fabric Tuesday.

Always great.

Design Wall Monday 3/7/11

Yes!  Have all 48 siggie blocks done and ready to be signed by my fellow students on the 12th when our class meets again.  Here are samples of the 8 sets laid out in a design - they probably won't stay this way, I'll see.  They are going to sign on the white part.

What's on your design wall?  I'd love to see it.  You can check out Judy's list at her blog.  Just go over to my left sidebar and click on the Patchwork Times button.  Have fun!

Design Wall Monday 2/28/11

Made a few more siggie blocks, and now that I've gotten done with Schedule C - Yaaaay! - may get back to the quilt-along too. So here's what my wall looks like:
They're not sewn together yet.  I have 6 more sets of 4s to sew together. I get 6 units out of each set.

What's on your design wall?  Go on over the Judy's and see what others are up to.  Thanks, Judy for giving us the incentive to keep on working.

Design Wall Monday 2/14/11

Have a few more of my strips blocks added to my wall.  The boat is reminding me of the Greek boats when I went on an island cruise of the Greek Isles in 94.  And the strip blocks around it too remind me of the tiles I would see on walls in Constantinople.  Have 4 blocks to go.  It will be 24" square at that point.  I'll add a border of the same material surrounding the boat and then 3" blocks around to make it 34" square when done.  A different kind of baby quilt.

Design Wall Monday 2/7/11

New block up on my wall. This is from Quiltmaker and is the Project Linus block for this year. I made one and that will be it for me. Paper piecing is a bit of challenge. And I'm going to do more of it, but not of this little sailboat. My frustration was getting the sky to look like sky - my fault for picking a directional print. I'm going to use it as a medallion in another charity quilt. And I'm adding some crumb blocks around it - LOL, not the the usual baby quilt, but I'll use a novelty flannel on the back.  In skimming quilt history books, I've seen a lot of crib quilts with eagles, Baltimore album blocks, pomegranites, etc on them.  This baby is getting a more unusual one, too.

What do you think?  Will mama use it as a wall hanging?  I'm wondering.

Design Wall Monday 1/24

Well I was going sale tax crazy, so I just dropped it all and stole 30 minutes to finish a square off of my design wall.  It's 8 1/2" by 10 1/2" .  Is it too big to call a mug rug?  If so, what should I call it - a micro quilt.
In QOR - guess I would call it a quiltlet.  But for now I'm calling it Under the Stone Pine.
The little house block was sent to me by Beth Shibley of LoveLaughQuilt  .  She hosted a house block swap so some lucky quilters could build their own friendly neighborhood.  There were three winners.  Some gorgeous blocks were turned in.  If you visit Beth's blog, look for the little house on her right sidebar and you can go see all the cute little houses.   To see what other's have on their design wall, click on the button for Judy's Patchwork Times on the left sidebar.

Stash Report/Design Wall Monday 1/16-17

I was gone this weekend, so I'm combining posts this time.  I finished my secret block and changed out the 4 " squares on my 4 inchers on my yellow monochromatic challenge and used about 1/10 yd, so

So: Used/Donated this week: .10 yards

Used/Donated Yr to date: 4.1yards
Added this wk: - 0.0 yards
Total Yr to date added: -1.25 yards
-------------------------------------------
Total Used Yr to date 2.85yards

Hope to do better this week.

And now for design wall - it's still the same with the blocks although they are now the right size.  I removed the 4" blocks and put 4 1/4" blocks and resewed them and now they are 8" like the rest.  Hopefully I will have time to work on them, but I'm not optimistic as I have a treasurer's report and taxes to work on.

What's on you Design Wall?

Design Wall Monday 1/10

Still working on my yellow monochromatic challenge.  Here are the 4 inchers sewn together.  Now I have to get batting and backing ready so I can start assembly.
Limited quilting time this week - have lots to do with DGKs, but that's life.  If I get my 15 a day in, I'll be happy.

What's on your design wall?  Go over the Judy's Patchworktimes to see what others are doing.(on left sidebar)

Late Design Wall

Well I'm in a funk - I can't seem to get myself over to the other half of this room and do quilting!  Weekend was busy!  A class, a shower, a headache - all kept me from feeling par.

Some good news - fun was had by all at the shower. Mom gave daughter a darling quilt - but I forgot my camera and can't show it to you.  There is nothing on my design wall at the moment.  I should be working on a table runner for our Christmas exchange at the LQG meeting in two weeks, but just don't have the energy.

Some great news.  Baby Alan now weighs 5 lbs!  Yeah!

Ah me!  Can hardly wait for the days to begin earlier - today I got up at 6am but it was so dark I went back to bed.

Send hugs, please,
Angie

Design Wall Monday 11/29

I'm back to a previous wall item - my coverlet which I started late summer.  I've learned a lot by starting to add the applique.  First, one should applique the sides first then put them on the top for the most part.  Some of my leaves will have paper in them because in making the 2 ply item - I can't cut the back to get the paper out.  Once I realized that I used some of Beth Ferrier's dissolving template material and those will not have paper - hehe - they will be like those old old quilts that were dated by the old paper in them.  Have three more sides to do.
Also I just couldn't get away from those rotary revolution blocks!  Before I knew it I had made 2 more - they are addictive - lol.  And I like the look of a two colors.  These were from 9" blocks and they came out to 10" finished.  What are you working on this week?  And don't forget to visit Judy at http://www.patchworktimes.com/ to see what others are up to.

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
