I Like Thursdays

Another week has come around to Thursday, and it's been busy again.  My likes were mostly around home.
Here my completely finished Winter Blue - label, binding, hanging pockets. I am so happy with it.

Walking to the bus stop I liked the amaryllis a neighbor planted.

Walking up from the bus stop, I liked that Alan spotted our blue cactus.
And the next day, I liked how DGS read a Dr. Seuss book to his sister in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

He likes to read to her and she likes to listen. And I like to listen to these chimes at my DD's house. They are so restful. I could listen all day.

And today, I was glad that it was the first day it was warm enough I didn't have to wear my coat inside.  What did you like?  Visit Lee Anna's I Like Thursdays to see what others have posted. I'm also linking to Wendy's Peacock Party - so many pretty things there.

I'll leave you with this verse:

First 2019 UFO Report & Friday Finish

My challenge this year has a 2 month deadline. As February is over, it's time to report on what got accomplished.

For my new project I now have three blocks done of 40. This is my  Finished or Not Friday. Sigh, not as many as I wanted, but since I only started this in February, I'm not too discourage.  They get constructed as leaders and enders. The blocks measure out to 16.5" square.  On my design wall at this time.

I'm happy to report I did finish my UFO for the first two-month period.  Winter Blue is all done.
I started this in 2014 with Karen at faeriesandfibres.blogspot.com Soupçon quilt along.  It has taken me 4 years to feel confident enough to do my own quilting.

Has broderie perse, EPP and paper piecing.

I love the back.
I'm making a wall hanging for each month of the year.  This one will be for the month of January.  I've also got June, July, Aug, Sept, Oct, and November done.
Here's the July one hanging in the LR now.
Some baby tops done:

and got another round done on my Bliss EPP project.

Lastly made some scrap blocks from a scrap bag. I'll show those later. I'm linking to Finished or Not Friday, Can I get a Whoop, Whoop?, Free Motion Mavericks and a few others.  You can see them all in my Linky Parties tab under the header.  How did you do?

Some of This; Some of That

I've been making string blocks, starting a new EPP, finished up an applique block, made a charity block for Covered in Love, and began quilting my UFO and a charity quilt - phew. So only have .53 yds to add to the stash report.  But I bagged yardage and scraps from my Sweet Land of Liberty that I no longer want. Found homespuns are so loosely woven, I don't care to work with them again.  I weighed them and the bag weighs 4.63 lbs or 74.08 ounces.  A one pound of fabric (average) weighs 3.5 ounces, so I'm giving away 21.17 yards.  Woohoo!  My new YTD destashing now stands at 27.15 yards.  And there's a space in my stash cleared away of all that fabric. Maybe I'll take some fabric out of a drawer.

Now for how I did in January with my 2019 UFO challenge. I'm happy to report I got my Jan-Feb UFO for the year sandwiched, and I am quilting it. I'm about 3/4ths done. Next is a whole lot of stippling and it will take a while.  I hope to have it done by my deadline of the end of February.  I've allotted myself 2 months for each project this year.

The second goal for January was to make my BOM block for my applique quilt.  That is done.
I am finally over the half way point making the applique blocks for this quilt - 10 to go.

Let's see, what else?
Made a mug rug as a gift,

Crocheted a baby washcloth

Finished adding the latest donut to my Bliss quilt,

and salvaged fussy cut fabric into a baby quilt top for St. Anne's.

And as to stitching time:
15 minutes stitching days/week = 7/7 days
15 minutes stitching days/Jan = 30/31 days
15 minutes stitching days/Feb = 2/2 days
15 minutes stitching days/2019 = 32/33 days
Success Rate = 96.96%

That's it for last month.  How did you do?  Leave me a comment and I'll come by and see your progress.  I'm linking to Sunday Stash15 minutes to Stitch 2019, and Oh, Scrap

Blessings.

6 and 6 in 2018 - October

I finished two this past month, and one was actually a quilt I had listed as getting done. I'm amazed.
My new project done was Sweet Land of Liberty (Lori's QAL that started in January):
All it needs now is a bit of embellishment on two blocks and then it can be sandwiched.  With such a busy quilt top, how would you quilt it?  I'm at a loss and welcome all suggestions.

The second finish is also from Lori - a weekly sew along in October where we made a mini quilt.
This one is all done and gifted already to a long time friend.

As to the UFO I was suppose to do this month, I didn't even look at it. It is destined to go on next year's list. How about you?  How did you do?  Would love to hear from you.  Hopefully, I'll be able to make some progress in the coming last months of the year.  I'm done travelling but Nov-Dec are the busiest with life events, so maybe not.  Blessings!

I'm linking to Amanda's Finish it up Fridays , Can I Get a Whoop, Whoop? , Finished or Not Friday and Oh, Scraps as the SLOL came totally from scraps from my stash.

Blessings,

All that's left is Binding!

I'm finally to the point where all I have to do is the binding and my first UFO for the year will be done!

This has taken a lot longer than I expected because I wanted to have a pattern on both sides of the quilt.  And then I just couldn't get myself to quilt on so many of these winter days  - instead I do blocks, start a new ufo, read - sigh.  It's good to have a goal and I wanted this done for my lqg meeting which is tomorrow.

I'm linking to Fabric Tuesday by Quilt Story and Linky Party at Quilt by the River.  Go see all the other fabric stories out there (buttons in sidebar).  Now off to do that binding!

Fabric Tuesday 7/19/11

The girls had a great time yesterday planning their quilt, working on a needlecase, and learning about two different stitches and choosing colors.  I was delighted to see them pick complementary colors (Lauren) and analogous colors (Megan)  They're making a simple squares quilt 7 x 9 of 5 1/2" squares.  Then we'll tie them.

Since I'm busy with the girls - not much done that I cans show you for fabric tuesday, but I thought I'd share my progress on my June UFO.
The center is done and I've added one of the outer sashings - seen on right.  As this is a QAYG - I'm doing it a little different than before so I'll get the effect I want on the back. I'll keep plugging along on this. Don't know when I'll get back to it as my mom is coming tomorrow, Alan in afternoon and Quilt Guild in PM.

Go on over to the button for Fabric Tuesday by Quilt Story on my left sidebar.  There are some great projects getting done over there.  Check them out.

Fabric Tuesday 6/28/11

Here is the last row of blocks for my June UFO.  Then it's only the inner border and the border and I'll be done!  Won't happen by Thursday, but I'm a lot closer than last month.  I finished the May UFO Monday!
Go on over to my left sidebar and check out Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday entries for this week.  They are always fun.

Design Wall Monday 6/27/11

New items on my design wall.
First, a curvy block whose link was posted on one of my group lists.  I don't do many curves so I thought I would give this one a try.  The gentle curves were easy to make.  I also found it in the EQ block library under classic designs, orange peel.  This turned out 12" square, and I used scraps from the never ending bin.  I did have to use 4 7" squares to cut out the floral pieces you see.  Don't know what I'll do with it yet - that's why it is on my design wall.

Next is my June UFO.  I know it is late in the month, yet I am making progress on it so I am happy about that.  I've added another row to it.  You can see the 2 back sashing in the photo.  Yes, it is another quilt as you go.

My May UFO is done

Actually it was done Tuesday but what with 3 of the DGKs coming in and out of our home, it's been hard to post let alone quilt or sew anything.  But yes, finally got DH to hold the quilt so I could take some photos.  Here it is:
Have no clue why the border looks so blue.  It is actually a deep purple.  Oh well.  This was a kit I bought at a Judy Sisneros lecture to a local guild.  It was a nine-patch pizzazz kit.  Went together easily.  Have no clue why it took me years to quilt it.  I'll probably put a sleeve on it and hang it in the living room.  The back is a batik.  I usually use a busy print so that my quilting mistakes won't show.  This time I had to use this fabric and decided I might as well do something other than an all over.  I came up with these feathers in the corners and the setting triangles and diamonds for the nine-patches.  It's a start.
Here's a close-up:

Design Wall Monday 6/20/11

My design wall this week is the bed of my sewing machine as I am just about finished quilting my May UFO.  It's the first time I've attempted feathers - and these aren't free hand - I'm using Golden Threads thin paper roll.  I used an old neddle to outline the motif and then I pin it over the block it will be in.  I then quilt it.  I"m using invisifil thread (100wt) in a light tan.  Have a ways to go and I'm finding its hard to go over a section a second time in quilting when the paper is in the way to see where you stopped.  Since this is my first time, I got lost sometimes in the line of sewing and had to go over a couple of places three times.  What this does is make it harder to take out the paper in those tiny places.  Where are my itty bitty pointy tweezers?  Here is what the back looks like:
Please tell me about your quilting adventures with a paper motif as a guide.  And be sure to go to the left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times button to see what others have on their design wall!

UFO progress??

Well, it's the last day of March and I only got 11 of the 80 blocks done of my ufo.  So must think positive and I'm 14% done with the top instead of 0%.  Just a bit better than February's UFO where I only appliqued down a flower and 2 leaves.  Wonder what Vince is going to pull from the hat for April?

First UFO Done

I'm ready to start on another ufo for the UFO challenge.  Yes, ufo #6 is done and will be gifted to Riverside Life Services.  I may not be so lucky next month as this one only needed quilting and binding to be finished, and it was 36"square.  My guardian angel was visiting MO when Vince pulled #6 from the bag to keep me enthused by not having to work on a bigger challenge on the first month.

I found this block in a picture in a Connecting Threads catalog.  I was intrigued enough with it that I sat down and figured out how to put it together.  Wish I had jotted down the name of the book it was in.  Whoever you were, thanks for this design.

I took large scraps from my stash and made the backing, so maybe I should consider this a 2 sided quilt.  I like how the quilting shows up on both sides too.

My UFO 2011 List

My progress this Thursday is I found the 12 UFOs plus 3 extra for the upcoming challenge.  I didn't have to look far - they were all on the rocking chair!  I'm doing Judy's UFO Challenge for 2011.  You can find the button for this on my left sidebar.  Here are the ones of the many I have that I am going to work on in 2011. I'm suppose to finish one per month as she calls them (number that is).

1.  Floral charm square exchange to make a lattice quilt - least done on this one.

2.  Women's Voices blocks made by Dorothy

 3.  Mod quilt I need to QAYG.

4.  BOM quilt only 3 blocks made so far - 9 to go!

 5. Mary Ellen Hopkins - design your own quilt - I started with the cat panel block and came up with this top I call it "Watching all the Birds go By"

6.  Charity quilt top I made making blocks I saw in a Connecting Threads catalog.

7.  My Carolina Christmas blocks - I'd sure like to get this done before NEXT Christmas!  Please call this number early, Judy.

8.  My daughter's quilt that I"ve worked on this year until I put the wrong fabric as a backing when making a row by QAYG.  I wasn't thinking!
 9.  A Judy Sisneros pattern and kit  needs to be sanwiched and quilted.

10.  Here's my coverlet - sure would be nice to finish it by July to go on our bed.

11. A quilt I wanted to finish for Leo that I'll now finish for Alan.

12.  My grandson, William, arranged these blocks when he was 3 years old for me to quilt.  He's 8.

If I finish a UFO early in the month I"ll work on these:
   A.  Here is another BOM set I won - these are made from Christmas material.

B.  The Shop Hop Blocks

C.  Two fabrics I must make into something this year - maybe not a quilt project.

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
