Hexie Weekend

I'll be at our guild's first retreat, and it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun and much sewing. It's going from 10 AM Friday thru 5 PM Sunday, so I'm posting early for  this week's hexie linky party post.

I finished my part 3 of the Soupçon Quilt Along. I can't believe I'm caught up!  Wish it was so on the other BOMs.

The first fabric I pulled out of the stash felt right for my hexie center. It's a Barbara Brackman fabric by Moda called Floral Trails.  It is so soft.  I just love the feel of it.  Wonder what Karen H at Soupçon QAL has in store for us next.  How are you doing on your project - hexie or otherwise?  All are welcome to post their eye candy. Linky below, ends Monday, midnight (yes, I like long weekends, lol).

Oh, and as a reminder to myself to do some hexies by Friday, I've made a button. It's on the right sidebar with the code if you'd like a reminder, too. Have a blessed weekend.

Hexie Friday Already?!

Here for the Grow Your Blog party and Giveaway? Please go here.   Welcome!

Gosh, this week flew by!  Quilty wise not much was accomplished, but a lot of things were happening.  Here's my finished Soupcon hexie flower.  I decided instead of embroidery to do broderie perse as the fabric I have has a lot of great motifs.  And if I embroidered it, I wouldn't be done for a while.  I may put a berry over the flat edges in midnight blue. Not sure yet.  I'll wait until we're further along in this QAL. My other finish for the week is here.

At that show we went to on Sunday (Road to California), I saw some spectacular quilts and of course some had hexagons.  Here's one:

Title is This is not my Grandmother's Garden.

How are you doing on your eye candy?  We would love to see it - hexie or not, finished, in process or dreaming of.  Linky below.  Closes Monday, 11 PM.

Hexie Weekend

This isn't an excuse, just the reality of last week.  I had the grandkids for 4 of those 7 days. Enough said.  Since I don't have anything new to show you, here are a few Hexie links to tide us over til next Hexi Weekend.

First off:
The first hexies are at Red Letter Quilts  She did a wonderful job of using a cheater cloth to make a vintage quilt her own.

Then there is Jean's Quilting Page.  That rock candy is so fab!  I could make a whole quilt out that block.

Lastly, see Becky at Patchwork Posse .  She loves hexagons, too.  And in the coming year will have some hexagon projects for us - I'll be interested to see them.

So, how did you do? Would love to see your progress on your hexie project or those you've finished or found on the net.  Linky Below.

Finish on Hexie Weekend

Well, I started another Hexie project - don't really know what you call this shape -Karen calls it flower petal - I think.  It has 5 sides, but they're not equal, so I guess it's a polygon.  It's block 1 of Karen's Soupçon Mystery QAL.
I'm learning to fussy cut. I had a beautiful orange print, but I couldn't find a segment that I liked in the template I made from Karen's pdf of hexagons on her site.  Then I found the piece above. I've gotten two made so far.  I'm also trying Karen's paperless method of making the pieces. Three more to make.

Would love to see your hexie project, old, new or ongoing!  Linky below. It ends Monday evening.

Didn't get any farther with my other flowers because of the above and also I had to finish a top for our St. Anne's meeting yesterday.  I was handed a bag of fabric - a donated ufo from someone in the parish.  There was some flannel yardage and all these strips.  Here's the back - each square is 16".
I loved this fabric especially the red with the gold leaves and the tiny flower!  Here is the front:
My part is finished with this project.  It went to another member to clip and wash.  We'll deliver it next month.  Do you have a finish?  I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Up Friday and Richard's Link a Finish.

Hexie Friday may be Hexie Days in 2014

Life got in the way and so I am posting my hexie progress on Saturday.  I'm thinking I may name Hexie Friday Hexie Days in 2014 since it's open to linking for more than one day, and life keeps getting in the way.
Here's the little progress I made:
For some reason I had a hard time picking the outer rim fabric for this hexie.  I was aiming for a type of daisy or cone flower coloring, especially with the bright red one I finished last week as part of this trio I'm working on.  I came across a lovely piece of Liberty of London fabric in my stash a dear friend gave me when she returned from a trip to England and Ireland.  I can see and feel why people collect this fabric - the feel is so soft and smooth and the little print of it is darling and so detailed. Thank you, Bette!

What are you doing on this 4th day of Christmas? I know Billie has colorful hexies and another cute bear to show us. Use the linky below to let us see your eye candy.   Doesn't have to be hexie - we like all kinds.  Closed Monday, midnight.

Merry Hexie Friday

With all the Christmas get-togethers, I haven't had much time for hexie's, just added three more.
Sharing the photo are two presents I received in the past days.  The ornament on the left can be used as a pincushion. The little penguin pincushion on the right is so cute.  I'm off to lunch with a special group of ladies I've met with monthly for the last 36 years.  We started as a baby sitting co-op and have morphed into a women's support circle.

What are you up to?  Would love to see what you are doing: applique, hexie or otherwise. Linky below.  Merry Christmas!

Hexie Friday Finish with FMQ

I went to a Christmas banquet with DH.  It was very nice, however, they have a long plant auction as part of it.  The plants are great and I'm happy for them to be getting some new plants, but I have no interest other than admiring the plants. This year I came prepared and brought along my hexie flowers kit.  I completely finished the one I was working on in the two hours it took for that part of the program.
The one on the left is the new one and you can see I started the third of this trio, too.

My other finish is this baby quilt I'm giving to the foster child whose name was on the tag I picked up at church.  Pedro is 2 years old.  I hope he'll like it.  Has cute animal flannel on back. It started out as a Pat Sloan pattern of which I only did the center.

I used freezer paper copies of the white star in the middle for the blue blocks, fmqued squiggly diagonal lines through the small squares and did loops and stars in the border. Learned I like warm and natural batting best - especially over this medium loft I've had in the quilt room for a long time.  Now I know why.  Wish I could count batting as part of de-stashing.

Show us your hexies.  Linky below.  I'm also linking to Amanda's Finish it Up Friday and Leah's Free Motion Quilting Project.

A Finish it Up Friday Finish with hexies and FMQ

Went Christmas shopping today.  Sigh - didn't find any of the advertised items I went to get.  Should have gone at 7 AM this morning, but it was too cold!  So back now, rested and here's my finish for this week that I showed you the beginnings of earlier:

It's a starry night panel from Northcott. I bought a kit from 1000 Bolts. It came with everything.  This photo is the truest one to the color of the fabric.

It's hanging over our fireplace.  This will be our tree this year.

I FMQued around the tree part and then meandered on the rest of the panel.  You can see the puffy parts in this view created by those meanders.  And the lights are on.  I like how the crystals sparkle.

Actually when the lights are on, the above is what it really looks like.  The lights are too bright! Actually you see even less of the fabric than you see here.  I'm thinking of looking for a more dim set of lights or adding crystals or rhinestones where the lights are.

Another finish (though small) is the next Hexie flower.  Got the first row done.

It's sitting on the rag rug I showed you on Monday.  Have three rows done!

How are you doing on your hexie project.  Would sure like to see it or any other eye candy.  Linky below.

Hexie Friday

I found my template pack!  I made my 7 hexie min for the week!  I'm on a roll!
How did you do?  Any and all hexie projects welcome - hey, even if it's not hexie - we love to see eye candy.  Linky below:

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways
Lots of great giveaways!

Whatever is wrong with me won't let go - doing a lot of laying down.  But have no commitments tomorrow, so hope to get something done if I feel well in the morning.  My hexie progress is not much, but I did progress - sigh.
Actually, my main problem is I have run out of the paper templates.  I have another package somewhere, but have not been able to find it.
A good sign I have to stop everything and sort out the sewing room again - LOL.  I could make some, however I've found that for best results it's best to continue how I started a project - whether it's a ruler, a template, or a machine even.

What are you up to? Would love to see your eye candy whether hexies or not.  Linky below.  It closes Monday night at midnight.  And we'd (that's Billie and me) love to see ones already finished or a while ago - they'll be new to us!

Hexie Friday 11/1/13

It's November!  Wow, time is flying!!  I tried something new this past week.  I set my goal of one hexie a day, and it actually worked.  Here's the start of my 10th flower:

I may have to buy some more papers.  The ones I've used several times are getting a bit distorted and flimsy.  How often have you used them before you tossed them?  I'm curious.

How's your hexie project going?  Would love to see it.  All eye candy accepted - even ones you've finished.  All new to Billie and me.  Linky below.

Hexie Friday Again!

Where did the week go?  Life is flashing by, but I actually got some hexies made.  Here is my third block for my hexie project:
It's laid out but not stitched yet.  And I have 7 of the next flower prepped - woohoo!  I've only made 178 hexies - feels like a lot - LOL.  I know some of you have made a gazillion more! Won't you share your eye candy.  Even if it isn't hexies - Billie and I would love to see it.  Linky below.  Closes Halloween, Midnight.

Hexie Friday 13th

Probably should have something orange for this day - wait a minute I do - the last hexie flower I finished. Started on the second of three - yippy for me. It has gone better (quilty-wise) as the weather has cooled down.  I picked up this latest issue of McCall's Quilting because it has the neatest hexie project in it.  I'm adding it to my wish list as the quilt has applique and machine piecing - two of my favorite quilting techniques plus hexies!

Also - I have a finish! So I'll be linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Friday and Connie's Linky Party.  I completed my machine appliqued Dresden block, and yes, I did make it into a bag.  I'm really pleased with it. I used a simple pattern that my Guild provides for making Happy Bags - a community service project whereby we make these bags to fill and give to the children in the Cancer Care unit at Loma Linda Medical Center at Christmas time.  We put in a stuffed animal, crayons, coloring book, puzzles, a book, etc. They love them and we feel blessed to bring them some happiness into their lives. Since we use juvenile prints for the bags,  I'm keeping this one as it is the block from the workshop I last attended.  Thank you Anelie - it was fun.

I like this bag pattern because you line it at the same time you are constructing the bag without making the lining separate and then inserting it into the bag.  It is a very quick and easy bag to make that only takes about a half yard of fabric.  You can find the pattern here.  Click on the tab for Community Service.

What have you been up to - Hexie or otherwise?  Billie and I would love to see your eye candy. And mind you, it could be an old post - it will be new to us.  Linky below:

Hexie Friday here again

And what have you been up to?  Here, not much, still due to the heat, but the weather man is promising it will start cooling down tomorrow.  Do I believe him?  Well, there's  tropical storm Lorena moving up Baja, so I won't be surprised if we get more muggy, hot weather toward the end of next week.  I'll just enjoy the 92-97 days and say no more about it.  I'm such a wimp.
Here the bit I got done on my latest hexi flower:

How are you doing on yours?  I have a friend who started one 25 years ago.  She's almost there. How's that for persistence.  Linky below, and remember it doesn't have to be a hexagon project to link.  We like all kinds of eye candy - and it doesn't have to be a new post either - an old one will do if it's new to us.  Billie is taking a family break, but I know she'll be reading the NET in between events, so she'll be thrilled to see them, too.

Hexi Friday Not

If youré looking for the giveaway - choice of a video craft class (which you can see as many times as you want and at your leisure) go here

What with working on my LE, I didn't have a chance to do any hexies this week, so my flower looks the same as last week.
And then yesterday we were punched by a storm cell that dropped almost 2.5 inches of rain in two hours - a rare occurrence here.  I took a video but blogger is not cooperating in letting me upload it - even though it's small enough. The yard is a mess.  So for Hexie Friday I have a great link to share with you.  If you haven't seen it already, do go to Life at Ruffhaven's  blog and see the most delightful owl quilt that has hexagons - you'll love it.  She was part of the Hexie Blog Hop and oh, was there a lot of wonderful "hexiness" in that Hop! Go here, too, to see Theresa's wonderful day.

As to a finish, I do have two .  I made my Block Lotto block for this month -a tall star (looks sort of chunky to me)  - my Lovely Year of Finishes goal for August.  And I finished the FMQ on my mod Flower Baskets - all bound and ready for gifting.

Here's how I did the edges.  I took my freezer paper motif and cut it down the middle.  Then ironed them between the baskets around the edges.

Finally I cut the curves where they joined and did the corners.

What have you been working on? Would love to see your hexie project or anything else. Linky below.

Hexie Friday and FMQ

Some hexie progress made during my long weekend with the Grands.  At least I finished the inner circle of hexies.
It's suppose to be hot this week, so I might get a lot more done as I sit in the living room staying cool.

And I've been doing some FMQ on that mod Flower Baskets charity quilt.  I sort of followed the design of the basket insides, but decided I wanted to do something different than meandering around the baskets.  I have this phobia of marking my quilt tops, so I came up with a geometric template that I cut out of freezer paper. A little more time consuming  - have to stop after stitching each one and move the pattern to the next intersection.  It is doable as I am using my home sewing machine.

I then iron it in place on the quilt top and stitch around the freezer paper.

It is HARD doing those lines - just as I find SITD hard, too.  It got better with each one.
Here's how it looks after stitching - not perfect but a way lot better if I didn't use the paper:
So that's my hexies and FMQ for today.  What are you up to?  Would love to see your hexies or other project progress, too!  Linky below.

It's Hexie Friday

I've stopped packing, watering, and straightening for a few minutes to post my teeny progress before I'm off to Duarte to babysit another set of cherubs for three days.  Here's the start of the next hexie for my flower baskets.

For me any progress is better than no progress - this has been the busiest summer in a long while.

Please share your hexi project or anything you're working on. I'd love to see it!  Linky below:

See you Monday!

It's Hexie Friday!

and I got my second block done. Yeah!  I was afraid the last hexie flower wouldn't go with the other two, but it does. Now I can start the next set of three and work on LE - my busiest part of the month is done.

Do you have a hexie project you're working on ( I wonder how Billie will showcase her lovelies this week), one you've finished or one you've seen lately that you could share?  Any eye candy is great.  Linky below.
And for more wonderful eye candy, I'm linking to Finish it up Friday, so go see Amanda's post!

Hexie Friday

Off to the International Quilt Festival at Long Beach today. But before I go, here's my puny progress on my hexie flower:
Got a start on the third row while my car was being serviced yesterday.  The good news is that I got one of the two baby quilts all quilted! This is all I can show for now in case the twins' Mama reads this post.

I just realized that this set of flowers has all darker centers - I may have to change this and make one with  a light center to replace one of them.  I'd just use the temporary reject in a later set.  How are you doing in your hexie project?  Would love to see!

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
