Some of This, Some of That Week 38

Well I used 2 yards to make another B3Quilt.
This is a Moda pattern from their Go Big Block 2 booklet.  Measures 32" square - just right for a preemie quilt.  It went together fast although I didn't do it in rows as they suggested.  I made the 5 nine-patch blocks that form an "x" in the middle of the quilt and then made the triangles in the center of the edges.

I liked the pattern so much that I decided to make the Raffle quilt for the Friends of the Library using this pattern to make a album quilt that will be raffled off Oct-December.
That's what's on my design wall barely.  It's too big - LOL.  Will measure 58" square.  The very center block will have the family's name in the center.  My daugher does great calligraphy and I'm going to ask her to write it in for us.  But first we have to have a winner.   Will take 3.75 yards from my stash.

Lastly, I've been going through my stash seeing if I can find fabrics to go with my RSC 2015 orange blocks.  These are the ones I've picked so far.  What do you think?  Please advise.  If I use all these it will be another 1/2 yard from my stash as most of this is from the St. Anne's stash.  This baby quilt will go to them.  It's going to be a simple quilt as I want to highlight the stars.  So for my stash report I can say I'll have used 6.25 yards this past week for a YTD total of 81.20 yards  de-stashed.

Slow stitching wise I have one more basket to do, and I will really start those leaves -lol.  If only I'd stop finding things I have to do, I might make some progress on those WIPs.

Applique Tuesday Week 26!

Oh my - half of 2015 is nearly gone! Where does the time go?

I took my hexie flower I made with my cousins and turned it into a mug rug:
I machine appliqued it to a round of front, batting and back.  If I can find the thread, I'll quilt around the inner hexagon and up the side seams to make it more flower petal like.

Did you do any applique or work on some eye candy.  Let me know and I'll come by and take a gander and leave a comment.  Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, a Stash and Design Wall Monday Report

First a stash report for week 3.  I used .25 yard of fabric to bind the UFO I finished.  I'll post it Friday. Then I used .26 yard to line a happy bag.  You can see the pattern here.  It is the first link on the page.  It only takes an hour to make one of these. I pulled a half yard of yellow dyed fabric for my Soupcon QAL. I also pulled some fabric to donate to my guild - 11 yards worth.  So here are my numbers:

Out this week:    1.01 yards;   YTD:       4.45 yards
Donated:          11.00 yards;     YTD:   11.00 yards
In this week:       0.00 yards;     YTD:     0.00 yards

Total YTD used                                   15.45 yards

I'll link to Judy's Stash Report and tomorrow I'll add some more to this post.

On my design wall are two sets of blocks I'm working on.  The first set is for the Garden Gate BOM I'm working on.

We were asked to make four these blocks - they're 12 1/2" blocks. The next block will be applique/embroidery. I say we as my friend, Deanna, and I are collaborating on a quilt again.  Here's the last one we made together.
She's making the machine embroidered blocks again and I'm piecing it.

My second set of blocks on my design wall are for a charity quilt:
The blocks come out to 21" and will be used in a disappearing nine-patch.

Lots of luscious eye candy there. Thanks for stoppping by!

Fabric Tuesday/Wip Wednesday

Yesterday was a fun day.  I got to spend 4 1/2 hours with my friend, Bette, doing a workshop at her house! We were working on a Karen Eckmeier's Accidental Landscapes project.  Bette is ahead of me by two projects and is working on her third, so she was able to guide me as to what I was doing.  She's a great teacher. Here's what my book looks like.

So I started on the practice piece Karen recommends one do before starting on a project.  Here's what fabrics I picked to start with:
This took a loooooooooooong time to decide what to include. Phew - it took us all the way to lunch time.  Then one has to decide what silhouette your going to use for each piece.  Since this was my first attempt - that took a long time, too, So I decided to generally follow what Karen had done in her practice piece.  I found that amazingly the landscape shapes will be pretty much determined by that first cut.
Who would have known?

So after much dithering and checking values with a red disk, here's what we came up with:

Mind you this is just laid down right now on a design board.  And I'm thinking the lake has to be smaller so that the mountains don't seem to be floating. Aye de mi!  Off to dither some more.

Since I was tied up most of the day yesterday, I'm posting this as a fabric Tuesday, Linky Tuesday, and a new WIP post today. Go on over to my sidebar and visit those blogs to see what others are up to.

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
