Fabric Tuesday 9/6/11

The Soldiers' Angels quilt is back from the quilter. She did a fine job - sort of a ripple effect and some stars.  As soon as I finish sewing on this label, it will be ready to go as I have already bound it in the same fabric as the outside border.  No, those dashed lines you see in the red is not the binding seam, just lines in the fabric.  Deanna has been a professional embroiderer for many years and out of the goodness of her heart makes all these labels for the quilts.  She's made over 200 in the last three years, I believe.  Thank you so much, Deanna!

And here is the finished quilt:

Freedom's Wings is finished.

I took all the great possible names and tossed them in a box.  And pulled out Freedom's Wings.  Thank you, Bonni - I picked your title from the hat and that's what I'm going to call it.  I think it turned out nice.  All the fabric except for the focus fabric came from my stash - didn't even know I had that many stars - LOL.  The bald eagles were bought at our thrifty corner at our guild meeting.  What do you think?

Done ahead of time.  We're suppose to turn these in at our June meeting.  I have TMPB phobia so I came up with this design rather the mystery assigned to this challenge.  Can you guess what TMPB stands for?  Another fat quarter awaits the correct guesser.

The quilt tops will be divied out to our group of long armers and then returned to us for binding.  Came out 50" by 65" .

Design Wall Monday 6/13/11

These are still on my design wall, however I have only 4 to make and one to change and I will be able to set the blocks into a top.  These will have a 5" sashing between them.  Can you guess what will be the cornerstones?  First correct guess gets a fat quarter.

WAYWO - what are you working on?

Thursday Progress 5/26/11

Half way done with my Soldiers' Angels' blocks.  Six to go.  These are going together pretty easily.

Design Wall Monday 5/23/11

Need to make a patriotic quilt top for the guild.  Due in June.  I was playing with the block all morning trying to use what's in my stash.  So far I have one block - LOL.

The centers will be different as I am using up patriotic scraps I bought at the thrify quilter's corner at a guild meeting.  These blocks come out 10 1/2 " square.  Hope to make the top 50 x 60 with one border.  Glad now I have EQ4 - it may not be the latest, but still does what I want  - that is the yardage and what the quilt will look like.  What do you think?

Go to my left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times to see what others are up to.  That is always so much fun.

Soldiers' Angels project

I mentioned my Saturday was mostly taken up with an 8 hour class on the Old Testament, but I did get around to finish the binding on this Soldiers' Angel quilt.  This is my favorite of the 7 I am working on right now.  I'm just doing the binding and labeling.  I do have a block I made in this one.  We have 72 quilts to send this year.  Our guild members have been marvelous at pitching in and helping with these.
On the left are three others ready to go.  We hope they will bring some measure of comfort to our soldiers abroad this coming holiday season.

Design Wall Monday - 6/7

Well, jury duty is postponed for later in the week so I will do this now to get it in before they call and say come in.  Our system is set up one day or one trial.  I didn't get to work on the dresden scrappy. Instead I have a blanket of belief for our soldiers angels project on the design wall so to speak.  I'm part of the binders.  They want all the binding done by machine because these quilt will get a lot of wear and they don't want them to come apart in the washings or use.

For all who serve

In honor of all who serve, I made a block contribution to our Soldier's Angel project this Memorial Day weekend.  The guild is gathering 12" blocks to make into quilts.  Here's the unit I'll be turning in next meeting.  I had a challenge putting it together.  The pattern I had was for an 8" block and I had to convert it to a 12".  The problem was the stripe piece has 5 pieces and I had to figure out what each piece would be that would line up with the star.  If I'd made the star first it would have been a piece of cake, cuz all I'd had to do was measure that smallish stripe in the flying geese unit and I'd have known what the others had to be.  I now have enough strips to make some crazy unit to give a third block.

Soldier's Angel Block

Here's a block I'm donating to our guild's Soldier's Angels project. We're to make 12 1/2 " blocks and they will be made into quilts to send to soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq. We're doing red white and blue but with Americana touches.

Look what our Guild has been up to!

In support of our troops and with the encouragment and leadership of our guild member, Renee - 62 quilts will be on their way to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq for Christmas. Click here for local story.

Still kicking

Hi, a quick note to say I'm still alive even though I haven't posted since June. Bouts of vertigo, and grandkids, visiting family and trying to stay cool have all kept me from the computer and posting, but hope to do better.

Here's a quilt I bound for the soldiersangels.org folks. One of our guild members is getting a bunch of these quilts together to send off for the military at Christmas time. We guild members help out by doing different parts of the quilt process. If you'd like to learn more about this worthy cause go to: http://www.soldiersangels.org/

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
