Hexie Weekend and a Finished Top

Did you see the 4 hexies I whipped out last week?  If not see the previous post.  I'm working on some more, but none finished yet.  I was home for a bit and did make the last Block Lotto block and finished putting it together.  I like it!
If I add any border it will probably be a narrow white border. You can see Sophie's masterpiece here.
I can now say I have a sampler quilt  top of my own. Now to quilt it.

I'm linking to Amanda's Finish it Up Fridays and Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop? ,and Bonnie at Quiltville. Link button below - it can be an old post - If you're like me, you're too busy right now - something from this past year will do.

Still concentrating on handwork as I'm still keeping Mom company to do some nursing duties.  We saw the surgeon today,  and he shared the the most wonderful news - she is definitely Stage One - the earliest type ever and will not need any other treatment.  Praise God!!

Hope you are having wonderful holy days!

Hexie Weekend

Company is gone now, but it's taken me some time to get back to normal, do laundry and store things. I was actually able to do a bit of hexies for this post. But the wonderful thing I read this week was Sue Garman's continuing post of the Quilt Festival in Houston. She photographed this gorgeous quilt by quiltmaker Anna Maria Schipper Vermeiren. It is called British Garden. Look very closely and you'll see hexagons.
You can see the full post here .  Do go to her post and see the closeups of this incredible quilt! You will be amazed. And watch this video below of another of Anna Maria's fabulous quilts:

Before the company arrived I was quilting the commission quilt whenever I could fit in a few minutes.  I quickly found I had to find a way to mark the path so I wouldn't get lost in what direction I needed to go.  I came up with masking tape to lead me across the quilt as it isn't a straight path for this quilt.
Here is part of that path quilted.  Just have about a fourth to do by the 13th.
I'm linking to Amanda's Finish it up Friday and Sarah Jean's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop?  as I got to finish 2 hexie flowers.

Let us see what you are up to - hexie or not, new post or old - we love all eye candy. Linky below - closes Monday, midnight.

 Blessings!

Hexie Weekend

No hexie progress this week - too busy getting ready to hosting the holiday at my house. We had all the family here - all the offspring and our grands - 12 in all.  I bought a brined turkey - wow, it turned out good!  They ate most of everything! I froze the bones for turkey soup later next week.
All the Grands - the towhead is visiting from CO.
Hope you had a good thanksgiving.  Linky Party back next week.
Continued blessings as we start this Holiday Season!

Hexie Weekend and Finishes

What with watching Alan and Will and nursing bruised ribs, here at last is Hexie Weekend.

My latest flower:

Made this while I waited with Mom at the doctor's for three appointments.  It's not attached to the table topper.  I threw it on to take this photo.
Our guild was having a gift exchange for the November meeting and we were to make mug rugs, package them up with a mug and bring to the meeting.  We then played the steal game.  It was a lot of fun! 64 of the near hundred members and guests who attended played. So here are the two (mine were 6"square) I made (one for Mom) that I can now show you:

And here they are with their mugs:
Snapfish had a 50% off on their mugs so I got one with our guild's pin design for this exchange. Mug  rug has our logo on it.

Debbie and her DGD opened my second one. DGD loves the cup - was just right for her and of course Debbie let her keep it.

Here's the one I got. I love batiks in my favorite fall colors and the cup is fabulous - big enough for soup.

One more of the fabulous mug rugs that were entered for this event:
I think I'd hang this one on a wall if I had won it. I'll show you others in later posts.

What have you been up to?  Show us your eye candy - doesn't have to be a new post. Linky below.  I'll be linking to Amanda's Finish it Up Friday and Sarah's Can I have a Whoop, Whoop?  Happy Thanksgiving!

Hexie Weekend

I started this last week during the train trip. Well today, after St. Anne's, I sat down for a few minutes and actually finished it. Ah, it's good to put the feet up.
What are you up to?  I'd love to see your eye candy.  Doesn't have to be hexies or a new post.  Surprise me!  Linky below.  I'm linking to Amanda's Finish it Up Friday and Sarah's Can I have a Whoop, Whoop?  Lots of eye candy there.

Hexie Weekend

Can you believe?  I actually got some hexies done on the train yesterday.
Would have gotten more done, but you know how it goes when you have six women gabbing and sharing all the way there and back - lol.  There were 18 of us and we had a great time. Our destination was Exposition Park.  We stayed together as a group from Riverside to Exposition Park and then we let them loose to do what they wanted. About half did want to see the Pompeii exhibit, a fourth the IMAX theater presentation, and another fourth to the National African- American Museum. We all had a good time, then met up again to come home, however 3 couples opted to go home later so they could do other things, and that was fine by us.  I guess it went well as most asked when the next trip was. LOL - it will be a while - this wore me out evey though it was fun.

Have you got some eye candy to share - hexies or otherwise.  What are you up to?  Linking below.
I finished a flower so I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Up Fridays and Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop?  Since it's been weeks since I've posted hexies, I consider that flower above a finish!
PS: The white fabric looks odd on those petals because the templates are from illustrated cards and the colors show up.

Hexie Weekend is Morphing

I've had to face a sad truth that my hexies are being so ignored, one would think I have abandoned them. Not so, but they may get relegated to UFOs at the speed I'm not going. And as we're coming to the busiest time of the year, I may not even do as much blogging.  What a dilemma.  So what did I do last week?

Yesterday I handed out my leaf mug rugs to the winners of the table decorating contest at the Friends of the Library meeting.  Then I had a brainstorming session with the President of said group for our fundraising page at an upcoming online fundraiser - all that took 5 1/2 hours.

Monday thru Wednesday had the grandchildren over.  Lots of driving around, but it's fun to talk to them and interact. In between I fitted in cooking, cleaning, volunteer work, and some quilting.

My finished baby quilt:
I took a bunch of scraps left over from another baby quilt we had made at St. Anne's and put this one together.  It's made with a QAYG method where you sew the blocks back to back and the seam allowance (in this case 1") to the front.  You fold over the seams and stitch to make faux sashing.  Goes together easily.  Measures 27 x 34 - just right for newborn, use in car seat or stroller.

Today's linky party is anything you want to share from your week - quilting (of course hexies if you have them), cooking, traveling, reading, family, etc. I'm always happy to read about you.

An InLinkz Link-up

While I wait for your eye-candy or story, I'll be over at Amanda's Finish it up Friday and Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop?

Hexie Weekend

I've just run out of energy.  Was at the library for 4 hours volunteering and am just tired.  There hasn't been any time for slow stitching on hexies, so I'm just going to share with you an email from C&T publishing - you'll understand why when you read it.  No linky this week.

Hexie Weekend

The kids are here for an overnight. I'll be taking them to school next AM. So I'm posting early as I'm going to a quilt retreat at 10AM tomorrow. Here's an awesome quilt I found while surfing the Net.
Click on the caption to read all about it.

And here is another way to put those hexagons together.  Go Here. All new to me.

What are you working on?  I'd love to see your eye candy, hexie or otherwise - new post or old.  Linky button below. Ends Monday, midnight.

I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it up Fridays and Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop? because I did finish two charity tops.  The focus fabric was given to me in pieces and this is what I came up with.  I call these finishes even though they are only flimsies because different members of the St. Anne's Sewdality group will finish them as they pray while they work on them. My part is done.

Off to find some projects to work on at the retreat. Bye for now!

Busy this Hexie Weekend

Super busy this hexie weekend with a yard sale and a booksale, so Billie at Billiebee's is handling the linky.  Thank you, Billie for agreeing to gather eye candy for us.  We love eye candy of any kind.

I did finish a quilt this week.  Go here to see it.  Also I was sorting and found this flimsie again.
I've finally decided to deconstruct these hexie blocks and machine applique them onto a new background.  The muslin is the weakest part of this top and hope to salvage the top that way.  I may put the little green diamonds also.  What would you do?

A friend asked how I use freezer paper to quilt around a motif.  Here are a few photos to illustrate what I do:
First I trace the pattern onto a piece of freezer paper.  I then cut between the feathers of the circle almost to the center circle.
Once I have cut it all out, I iron the shiny side to the top of my quilt where I am going to place that element.
Then I machine quilt the motif by starting at the circle, traveling up a feather and then down the spine of the next feather to the circle again. Repeat all the way around.  Since I have already cut the paper for the feathers, it's easy peasy removing the paper.
And here's what it looks like once it's done.
Go on over to Billie's  and share a link.  I'll pick one of those who link to get 100 one inch hexagon templates to try your hand at hexies.  Wish me luck in the next two days.

I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Friday and Sarah's Can I have a Whoop, Whoop?  Do stop by.

Hexie Weekend in the Afternoon

Grandson here and worked on commission quilt- enough said.  So how about what my hexies look like so far.
I've only gotten nine done!  Geesh - must pick up the pace.  Need 27 more.

I spent most my time since Tuesday with the commission quilt.
Four rows done - three to go.  Wish now I had used a more tan background for the blocks with symbols, but I'm not doing it over.  What do you think?

And also, what are you up to?  I'm going to a Greek Festival in a few minutes and know I'll have fun. I had such a good time when I was in Greece. The food was divine, the people so friendly. Would love to see what you will work on this weekend.  Linky below.

I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Up Friday as I finished some more rows, and with Sarah at Can I have a Whoop, Whoop?  Have a great weekend!

Hexie Weekend

First, I finished that half done hexie flower from last week.
I hoped to make more but I was busy finishing quilting my hexie quilt!

I want to thank Karen of Faeries and Fibres for all her helpful quilting advice as she posts while quilting her beautiful hexagon quilts.  I've learned a lot!

Here's a more frontal photo.

And the back.  I just love the back - looks like a whole cloth quilt to me. Just the binding left to do - my goal is to finish that by Tuesday.

Now I have to get back to my commission quilt, but I'm sandwiching another to quilt and cutting the binding strips for the one above.

What are you up to?  I'd love to see your project, hexie or otherwise. Linky below - it ends Monday, midnight.

With my love of eye candy, I'm also linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it up Friday, Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop? and Richard's Link a Finish . Lots to see there.

Hexie Weekend

Okay - My hand stitched hexies are on hold as I quilt that Hexie flower garden I've shown you before. Actually started on it. I'm being daring and quilting the flowers with pink 50 wt thread on top and silver on the bottom as I practiced on a piece and got the tension just right.  I read and reread Karen H's posts on how she quilts her hexagons and am using her experience to guide me.

And I'm happy with the response so far for my ongoing Giveaway.  Did you read the previous post.  I'm giving away a quilt. So if you didn't read it, go back and enter to see if you win this lap quilt.  There are six ways to enter!

On Wednesday I was at the California Science Center in LA for their Pompeii Exhibit.  It was great - a little noisy with all that volcanic action, but it was very interesting to see all they had from Italy from Pompeii that has not been seen in US before.  They have a great simulation of the eruption, a thorough explanation of the city and how people lived there.  Loved the atriums.

And - I do have a finish!  Here's my completed hexagon charity quilt I made with my new Hex N More ruler.

Here's #2 holding it.  It's almost as big as he is!  I made a comment to myself about how Grandpa wasn't available to hold it so I could take a picture. He immediately said, "I can hold it for you, Grandma." He's such a helper.
I decided to quilt a strip of loops around the edge for the border.  This measures 34 by 36.
I spent quite a bit of time making all those skating rabbits going one way where I could.  It was only when I had quilted half the motifs did I notice I had quilted them upside down to the bunnies. From now on, it's check twice, quilt once -LOL.  I hope baby won't mind.
Here you can see some of the motifs in the squares. I found a cat, dog, bear, cherries, apple, tree, whale, sandman, seashell and airplane to quilt - all Mary Covey motifs.  I used freezer paper to mark them in the full hexagons.
It was very hard to see the quilting on the backing - thus the contrasty photo.  I used silver 50 wt Aurifil thread and silver Superior Bottom line for the back with a 90/14 titanium needle.

So what have you been up to?  Would love to see your eye candy! Linky below; ends Monday, midnight.  Because I love eye candy, I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Up Friday and Richard's Link a Finish Friday .

Do enter the giveaway!  I'd love to send you my quilt to celebrate my 1001 posts.

Hexie Weekend plus FMQ

Home from Duarte and babysitting for 36 hours while DS and DDIL went to a concert.  Since they were coming home late, I stayed the night.

Here are the hexies I made while waiting at the Doctor's office last Friday. It was a 2 hour wait this time.

One can get a lot done while waiting around.

I finished and bound my  Modern charity quilt.  I quilted it a lot more than any other.  I found that you do need a bit more around the edges of batting and backing when one quilts so heavily.  I had to add a piece to one corner that shrunk more than I thought.

I got carried away doodling on it.
Here it is bound and finished sitting on the one that will be next quilted.

What are you working on?  Would love to see your eye candy! Linky below.   I'm going to send 100 1" hexagon paper pieces to one of you who links. Remember it doesn't have to be new or hexies - could be anything -blog post or photostream.

I'm linking to Amanda's Finish it up Fridays and Sarah's Can I have a Whoop, Whoop!
Stay cool.

Hexie Weekend

Hello, this was going to go out first thing this morning, but I went to the doctor instead.  This time it took 2 hours.  Then when I got home, and after the Doc assured me that the meds would not put me to sleep, I took one at lunch and promptly fell asleep.   Me and antihistamines - geesh!

I did get some hexie's done this past week. I even sandwiched a hexie project for quilting!

More were done at the doctor's office, but I"ll show those next week as I haven't taken a photo.
This is really white, but for some reason the camera decided it was going to be yellow. I pieced the batting.
It's yellow, too - but should be white background.
Here's my project - about 30" square. I'm going to try some of Karen's ideas for quilting hexagons. You can see hers here.

I also finished a charity quilt top for St. Anne's.
These little monkeys were so cute I had to fussy cut them.

What are you up to?  Would love to see your eye candy.  Linky below.  I'm linking to Richard's Link a Finish Friday, Sarah's Can I get a Whoop, Whoop, and Amanda's Finish it Friday.

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
