Some of This; Some of That

The Stash Report:  Made 53 blocks out of scraps for 3.66 yards.  Made my On Ringo Lake  Part 1 units using another .25 yards for a total of 3.91 yards used for the week.  That brings my YTD total to  72.04 yds destashed.

Here are my units for Bonnie Hunter's mystery
They took longer to do as I had to dig into my scraps and some I assembled as 1 1/2" pieces to get the nine-patch.

And I've started to quilt my Baby Quilt.  Just have most of the small squares to quilt and then I can bind.  I'm aiming to have this done by Friday.  We'll see.

Last, but not least - here's a cactus I photographed in my husband's greenhouse last week. These flowers last about a week before they lose their beauty.  That color is something!
On my design wall is still the Mother Goose medallion quilt.  I have made the last 24 units and hope to get those sewn together quick, too.  Then maybe I'll have time to get back to my Christmas WIP.  But first I must add some quilting to a Wall Hanging that will be a door prize at our Sewdality's reception after the Anointing of the Sick mass.  Always something - good thing I can carry over my WIP list into 2018.

What are you up to?  Come by and I'll visit to see your work. I'm linking up to Oh, Scrap!Design Wall MondayBOMs AwayMoving it Forward, and Monday Making.

4th Stash Report for 2013

Another busy week has ended, but I got a few more minutes in for quilting - yeah!  I sent off a flimsie with the backing I pulled to use up 1.5 yards of stash.  I also used a 1/4 yard for binding my first charity quilt for 2013 - another yeah!  This is a VA lap quilt - simple and quick, but it's been waiting for me to bind since Nov.  My friend Carol quilted it.  It measures 36" by 45"
Here are my numbers:
This week:  in 0.0 yds.; out 1.75yds.
Stash YTD: in 2.5 yds., out 3.75 yds.
Donated this week: 0.0 yds; YTD: 1.0 yds

Net for 2013: out 1.25. I'm in the green!   How are you doing?  I'm linking to Judy's Patchwork Times to see how others are doing.  Probably a lot better than I - LOL.

Stash Report 9/16/12

First, the book giveaway for this week ends Wednesday, midnight. The book is a different Quilt the Seasons - learn a technique with each project, and there's 24 of them! You can see it here.  Lyn, I'm mailing the one you won last week Monday.

Second - I finally bound my first VA wheelchair quilt.  This has been a long time in getting done (January is when I think I started it). Measures 36 by 44, and here it is folded and ready to hand in at the guild meeting next Tuesday.
Thirdly, did a little more culling and used a 1/4 yard to bind the above quilt, so I used/donated 6.5 yards this past week for my destashing.  Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated last week:    6.5 yards
Used/Donated YTD:    139.19 yards
Added/Bought last week: 0.0   yards
Added/Bought YTD:     35.54 yards
------------------------------
Net Decrease YTD:    103.65 yards.

How are you doing on you destashing? I've reached my goal of 100 for the year!  Yeah, but it's not the way I wanted to do it - with most of it donated.  However, progress is progress - there's a tiny bit of free space showning in my stash bookcase.  Maybe I'll get to free some fabric from their box coffins - LOL.  Who knows what treasures I have.

Lastly, I'm linking with Judy at Patchwork Times.  Go see how others are doing with their destash.

Stash Report 9/9/12

One thing about being so busy with family - no time to buy fabric as I hardly have time on the computer.  But there is a book giveaway going - Quilting the Seasons with Pat Sloan - ends Wednesday, the 12th at midnight.  So go on over if you'd like this great book.

Did have a few minutes to further cull from my stash - pulled a yard for the back of my latest charity quilt, a few pieces for the two applique blocks I'm working on, and 10 yards to donate to the Thrifty Corner at our guild meeting.  Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated last week: 11.25 yards
Used/Donated YTD:      132.69 yards
Added/Bought last week:    0.0  yards
Added/Bought YTD:       35.54  yards
------------------------------
Net Decrease YTD: 97.15 yards.   Not my favorite way to reach 100 yards, but realistic. How are you doing? Head on over to Judy's Stash Report to see how others did.

Stash Report 7/29/12

Like Judy, nothing in and nothing out.  Oh, I did sew and piece and quilt last week - just not on anything new where I used yardage.  I did finish a baby quilt, and another baby quilt flimsie and an applique block, but I was way too busy to start anything new that might use up some fabric.  I'll be getting ready to visit my son in CO this week so not much else will get done, either.  Any one know of a quilt store in Fort Collins?
Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated last week: 0 yards
Used/Donated YTD: 94.19 yards
Added/Bought last week: 0.0yards
Added/Bought YTD: 35.5 yards
------------------------------
Net Decrease YTD: 58.69 yards

As a summary of last week - we started the week with our son and family coming for a visit.  Here's Lily looking so grown up:
I can't believe she's only 26 months, and she potty trained herself because she wanted to wear grown-up panties.
Here's the finished owl quilt for Baby Messner.  I decided on circles for the center as there are so many circles in the fabric and a wonky free hand Greek key in the border.

For the label I wrote the particulars in one of the corners.  It says: For Baby Messner, with love, Abuela, 2012.
And the back is a cozy large dot flannel:

I used a green YLI thread on the back also.
And at the end of the week we went to the Long Beach International Festival and had a great time.  I did buy a table runner kit, but since the fabric in there is already cut and ready to assemble, and it's NOT going in my stash, I'm not counting it as an addition to my stash.  Bought thread also and a pattern.  I was restrained.

I'm linking over to Judy's Patchwork Times.  She has a stash report post this week and her new blog is great.  Go have a look.

Stash Report 6/24/12

Well,,, I did it.  Bought 6 yards of Kona Cotton Solide from Hobby Lobby.  The closest one is 45 miles away. But I bought them online - less temptation you see - hah!  They had free shipping and 40% off and I needed white.  I bought banana - don't ask me why -??? It's already come so I have to count it.

On the plus side, and despite burnt fingers, I did manage to use/donate some yardage:  Used 1 1/3 yards for the back of that VA quilt. Pulled another 2 2/3rds for the next VA quilt.  Used a fat eighth of scraps for a Log Cabin blk. Donated 2.5 yards (a Santa Panel and 1.5 matching fabric), and 5.42 yards of fabric for LQG thrifty corner.  I also used up about a fat quarter of fabric on my Forget Me Not block and 1.75 yards for Anna's Garden [A reminder - I count it out of stash when I've removed it from the stash and cut into it. From then on, it's in my working pile].
Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated last week: 14.36 yards
Used/Donated YTD:        85.34 yards
Added/Bought last week:    6.0 yards
Added/Bought YTD:         33.5 yards
------------------------------
Net Decrease YTD:           51.84 yards   Woohoo!  I'm past my 50 yard goal for the half year!! and still have all of this coming week to up the numbers.

Stash Report 4/22/12

It was a good week for destashing - at least for my goals that is.  I have pulled 4 1/4 yards for two charity quilt backs I have started.  I made a quiltlet (.22 yd )and finished a mug rug (.04 yd).  Now you're probably wondering how I got those numbers in parentheses.  And I have a friend who wants to know how I figure yardage using scraps so here goes.  When I've finished a project [let's use the mug rug as the example] I measure my piece - in this case it was only the backing that I pulled from my stash.  It measured 7.5 inches square.  Now I found how many square inches there are in a yard (using 36 x 42 measurement).  There are 1512 square inches in this yard.  I'm going to use that as my standard yard.  So I multiplied my mug rug backing  7.5 x 7.5 and got 56.25 sq inches.  I divide that by the 1512 and get 0.0372 or 0.04 of a yd.  That quiltlet that I made - it was 18" square.  Doubled the 18 and divided by 1512 to get .22 yds.  Clear as mud?

When I'm making a scrap block, I lay out my scraps and work out how many inches I took out of my stash.  The little I have left is usually too small to go back into the scrap bin (it's not going back into my stash!), so it isn't added back. Take the photo above.  I laid out my scraps and I would roughly be using a rectangle of fabric that measures 11 x 14 or 154 square inches or .10 yd.

Why do I bother - Hey!  Progress is progress  - no matter how tiny a destash - LOL.  Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 4.51 yards
Used/Donated YTD:      57.56 yards
Added/Bought this week: 0.00 yards
Added/Bought YTD:        21.5 yards
------------------------------
Net Decrease YTD:         36.06 yards

Stash Report 4/8/12 and Spring Trio

Had a wonderful Easter Sunday.  Hope you did too.  Food was good, company was great.  Praise the Lord for His abundant love for us.

I've been working on the mystery block for Esther's BOM, so haven't done much sewing.  Oops I take that back - I did make a charity flimsey with some swap blocks but that was way at the beginning of last week - think tues.  It's been so long since I've sat down at the machine as I was dealing with all the tiny pieces for the applique block.  I'll show it tomorrow.  The light is not good for taking a photo.  In the meantime here is a shot from my garden.  White allysum, pink primrose and yellow Iris.  They look so pretty together.  The iris has given me 12 blooms from two stalks.  It took 3 years before it bloom but wow, I love it.   So  a charity flimsey for 1.5 yards; pieces for applique about 1/4 yard and 3 yards for charity giveaway.  Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 4.75yards
Used/Donated YTD:      48.78 yards
Added/Bought this week: 0.00 yards
Added/Bought YTD:      21.5 yards
--------------------------------
Net Used YTD:            27.28 yards

Stash Report 4/1/12

Last week's charity quilt done.  At least my part of it - all it needs now is clipping and washing:

Oh my!  A fourth of the year is already over!!  Where does the time go?  I started and just need to bind now the other charity quilt.  That was 2 yards of fabric plus an 1/8th for binding.  Then I started on Alan's pillow and that was another 3/4 quarters yard.  So here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 2.88 yards

Used/Donated YTD:     44.03 yards

Added/Bought this week: 0.0 yards

Added/Bought YTD:     21.5 yards

--------------------------------

Net Used YTD:           22.03 yards

If I keep using more than 2 yards per week I will eventually catch up.  How'd you do?  Go on over to Judy's Patchwork Times and link your post so we can celebrate with you.  See sidebar.

Stash Report 3/25/12

Three months almost into 2012 and I should be at about 25 yards. Well, this past week, I only used two to make another charity quilt - but that's for tomorrow's post. The rest of the week I worked on free motion quilting my 2nd UFO. I hope to finish it today. And working on three BOMs, just don't have much to show on them. I did finish that charity quilt I had on my design wall:
It will look nicer once it is clipped and washed three times to make the ruffly seams.  I make these for my non-machine owners of St. Anne's Sodality to finish at home.  They don't have batting so they won't be too heavy for the babies.  The mothers love them.

Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 2.0yards
Used/Donated YTD: 41.15 yards
Added/Bought this week: 0.0 yards
Added/Bought YTD: 21.5 yards
--------------------------------
Net Used YTD: 19.15 yards  Only 6 yards behind.  Either I have to make a big quilt or donate to the guild some of my fabric.  Which do you think I'll choose?

Stash Report 12/11/11

Cut out a new charity quilt, so there was one yard.  Cut binding for my ufo, there's a 1/3 of a yard, so here are my numbers:
Used/Donated 1.33 yards
Used/Donated Yr to date: 106.71 yards
Added this wk: 0.0 yards
Total Yr to date Added: - 12 yards
-----------------------------------------

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
