Blog Fall Festival Oct 29, 2011

Isn't it wonderful that it's time for another Blogger Festival?  Thank you, Amy, for bringing so much eye candy our way and the goodies!!  Oh,my!                         This is a Blue Star Service banner wall hanging I made for one of our friends.  At one time she had 3 sons in the Army, and one in the Navy (she has six sons).  Now there is one - he's a Colonel and a Doctor still in service to his country.  Go over to Amy's Festival and feast your eyes on all the beautiful quilts on display.  The button is on my right sidebar and here below.

Applique Thursday 10/27/11

I worked on this block before I left for Houston.  It is another shop hop block.  It's ready to fuse down and machine applique.  This is an easy one. Would love to see your applique: past, present, in process or one you'd love to make.

WIP Wednesday 10/26/11

Here's a block from my two color quilt - still have to quilt the borders and hand sew the back of them to the quilt, then bind.  In this block I haven't taken all the paper off yet from the machine quilting.  This is another quilt as you go project.

Go to my left sidebar and click on WIP Wednesday by freshly pieced.  Lots of nice projects are moving along there.

They're done!

All eight done! They went together fast doing the chain piecing method. Say that layout would make a cute quilt!  I'll have to keep that in mind when I need a fast quilt.  Now off to finish packing.  See you in Houston!

Fabric Tuesday 10/25/11

I made these last week in a few mintues between events - my sanity savers of those days.  I wish I had had more time to make others, but I am going to have to put the crumb along on hold until I am back from Houston.
Here are two log cabins I finished.

Are you playing with fabric? Click on Fabric Tuesday by Quilt Story and see what others are doing.  And click on the Crumb-along and see where Jo is taking the crumb makers this week - both on the left sidebar.  Enjoy.

Design Wall Monday 10/24/11

On my wall today are eight mug rugs I have to have done by tuesday evening.  You can see my first one on the right.  I'll work on them in between packing and getting things ready to leave done at home.  Don't have to worry about DH and eating - he's a great cook.  I'm taking the rugs to Houston.  They will measure 5 1/2" square.

What's on your design wall?  Go on over to Judy's Patchwork Times on my left sidebar and see what great things quilters are up to.

Stash Report 10/23/11

Not a quilty week at least stash wise. This is how it went:
Monday - a marathon quilting bee whereby friend Deanna and I assembled the top to our challenge 9:30 - 3pm,and we got a lot done. Phew!

Tuesday, I added the temporary borders to the quilt - will finish after Houston. Mom came over, we went for flu shots after picking up Will, then off the the LQG meeting in the PM. There were over 20 entries and we won 2nd place! We were so excited!!

Wednesday - all day in Duarte - we did plan a quilt and I brought home one Deanna(another Deanna - this one DDIL)had made the top and would like my mom to finish. It is a T-shirt quilt. PM went to three hour TESL class.

Thursday - housework in am and at noon went to MVA to babysit the boys (Will and Alan) so that DD and DSIL could drive into LA for a concert. There til Friday.

Friday - home 8:30 AM and then got an emergency call for a check for Friends of the Library so dashed to get ready, deliver the check and back by 10:30 to go with Torre to luncheon from Sandy's ( half hour away)then another half hour to restaurant. Not home til 3:30. At 5:30 off to do bread delivery. This evening I did get a chance to cut some mug rugs out to take with me next Wednesday.

Saturday - all day yardsale for our Women's Co-Op group (we have met monthly for the last 33 years). We made a little over $500!

So today I may have a chance to work on the mug rugs in between washing clothes, dyeing my hair, starting to pack, cooking a special request for DH, etc.

Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: .5 yards
Used/Donated Yr to date: 91.88 yards
Added this wk: 0.0 yards
Total Yr to date Added: -12 yards

Applique Thursday 10/20/11

I'm still working on my cherry tree.  7 leaves and 2 cherries to go.  I don't know why I keep taking it with me when I visit Duarte.  There is no way darling Lily will give me time to work on it -LOL.  Hope springs eternal.

Would love to see your applique/piecing project - past, present, in process or future!  Please link your blog post below or even of a photo.  Love eye candy of the applique kind.

Stash Report 10/16/11

Have only scrap use to show for this past week - 3/4 yards to be more specific.  Can't count the charity quilt blocks as I counted those when I cut them.  So my numbers are:
Used/Donated this week: .75 yards

Used/Donated Yr to date: 91.38yards

Added this wk: 0.0 yards

Total Yr to date Added: -12 yards

-----------------------------------------

Total Yr to date Used: 79.38 yards

I'm working on a quilt I hope to have at least the top done by Tuesday - that has taken all my quilting time.  I'll show it once I get to that point.

Have you been destashing.  Let us know how you did.  Visit Judy at Patchworktimes on my left sidebar.

Have a quilty week!

Favorite Things Friday 10/14/11

Flowers are one of my favorite things. They are such a point of grace and peacefullness.  They center me.  Now is not the season for profuse displays of flowers as in Spring.  But I find spots of color in the yard that bring a moment of calm never the less.  From bougainvillea, allysum, kalenchoe, to rose - all in the fall display.

Now this one gave me pause and a flash of awe.  Is that not a strange flower?  I love my husband's collection for all the blooms cacti and succulents display.  This one is a succulent Ceropegia.  Looks like it would be right at home on the planet Pandora, but actually can be found in the Canary Islands, Africa, Madagascar, Arabia, India, Ceylon, China, Indonesia, Phillipines,
New Guinea and Queensland, Australia.

God's world is wonderous!

Applique Thursdays 10/13/11

Sorry for the delay, but I just got home from two days of round the clock meetings, events, babysitting and helping mom with legal matter. I feel as if I've been run over by a cement truck. I wanted to do it Tuesday night but never had a chance with getting ready for Wednesday.  So here is my completed owl and the linky button.  I was going to use invisible thread, but never had a chance to go to JoAnn's and buy some. My mom said - it is so colorful, go ahead and use several threads, and so I did.  I almost got into trouble as I squared up the block to 8 1/2" before I appliqued it.  Fortunately, the stitching didn't make it smaller this time.  Pheww!

I hope you all still feel like sharing.  Would love to see your present, past or future ideas for applique.

Fabric Tuesday 10/11/11

My fabric story this week is on the crumb along blocks I'm making along with all the others at Jo's crumb along.  You can see her progress by going to her website .  I thought I would be emptying those crumb drawers lickety split.  Not so - seems I make more crumbs as I go.  I've got to learn to let go!!  Also the smaller the crumbs I use the thicker the intersections become.  This quilt is going to definitely be done by machine.  Here are my latest 9 blocks I made since last tuesday.  This week we were suppose to make blocks with trianges.  Ithink I managed to put at least one triangle in seach of these.

How have you been playing with fabric?  Go on over to Fabric Tuesday by Quilt Story on my left sidebar and be ready to be inspired.

Design Wall Monday 10/10/11

I have to keep working on my UFOs!, but they're too bulky to be on my design wall.  Here's a charity quilt I have cut out that I hope to start this week.  Just a simple block design zig zagging across the quilt.

What's on your design wall?  To see what others have on theirs, go over to my left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times.

Stash Report 10/9/11

Was I busy last week?!  This week will be way more calm, but it does start with a dental appointment - ay ya yai!  Seems I have a loose implant - not good.  On the stash front.  I use a 1/4 yard to bind a charity quilt, and a half yard of crumbs to make 7 crumb blocks.  Then I culled 4 1/2 yards from my stash of fabric I'm sure not to use, so my total for the week is 5.38 yards gone from the stash.  Here are my numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 5.38 yards
Used/Donated Yr to date: 90.63yards
Added this wk: 0.0 yards
Total Yr to date Added: -12 yards
-----------------------------------------
Total Yr to date Used: 78.63 yards

Almost near 80 yards!  Maybe I will make 100.

How's your destashing going?  Go on over to my left sidebar and click on Judy's Patchwork Times and see how a whole lot of other quilters are doing in getting a handle on their stash.

Shout Color Catcher Winners!

Hello!  First, thank you to the 16 quilters who left comments on this post.  Several already knew about this great product and I appreciated their comments.  Seems I'm not the only ones who likes these.  And Karen S uses them in her art quilts after they've saved fabric in the washer.  How green is that!

Okay, went to random.org and got two numbers, so the winners are Helsie and Jodi!  Congratulations, ladies!  As soon as I get your snail mail address, I'll send you one to try.

Thanks for playing.

Applique Thursday 10/6/11

In between all my commitments, I managed to squeeze in a few minutes here and there to work on my third owl.  He's all fused together - now I will have to find sit down time at my machine to stitch him down.  The pattern for this shop hop block came from Esther's Fabrics located in Washington state.  They were part of the 2010 shop hop - it's a big one!

Any applique to share?  I'd love to see a present or past project even a future one.  If it has piecing also - even better.  I love applique and piecing eye candy.  Leave a blog post or photo link below to your project.
Thanks so much.

WIP Wednesday 10/5/11

I do have other projects I'm working on - just not ready to show what I've done as it hasn't been that much. So here are the 4 latest crumb blocks I've made.  Our assignment this week was to use triangles.

You can see what all the crumbs are about at Jo's Crumb along.  The button is in my left sidebar.

To see what others are working on now, click on WIP Wednesdays by freshly pieced.  That's in the left sidebar, too.  Be inspired.

Crumb Along #5

Been gone most of last two days, so no crumbs done so far except for two.  The first one, the "W" took me almost an hour - too long for a crumb block.  So I'm looking into a way to make them easier.  I've gotten some useful suggestions and I will try them, but here is where I've come up with a way that will incorporate applique (machine that is) with the crumb piecies - and that's my near completed "a" block.  I'll see how that goes.

How are your crumbs coming along.  I hope to make some with triangles after dinner to start to play catch up.  You can see how other's are doing by clicking on the crumb along button on the top of my left sidebar.

Enjoy!

Design Wall 10/3/11

Up on my design wall is the first letter crumb block I've made.  Phew!  It was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  Either I'll have to come up with a way to make them that's easier or I'm gonna have to choose a lot less words to put on the border.  Anyone know of a good tutorial for making these?
Off to Duarte so can't google now.

Hop on over to Judy's Patchwork Times and see what other have on their design wall.  You'll see the button on my left sidebar.

Stash Report 10/2/11

Half yard of scraps for crumb along.  A yard and a half for my 2 color quilt blocks.  2 yards culled from my stash for donating to guild thrifty corner.  Nothing in.  I'm kinda surprised I have that much given the past week dearth of quilting, so here are the numbers:
Used/Donated this week: 4 yards
Used/Donated Yr to date: 85.25 yards

Added this wk: 0.0 yards

Total Yr to date Added: -12 yards

-----------------------------------------

Total Yr to date Used: 73.25 yards

Crawling toward 100 yards.

Now what have you done to lessen your stash?  Go on over to Judy's Patchwork Times and see how others have fared.  Judy has done great!
