FMQ Start

I'm traveling, but I set this post up before I left.  If I can figure out how to do it, I'll send photos via my cell phone (should you be interested).  Started to quilt that preemie top. Thought I'd do a bit more than just SITD on this charity quilt.

Friday Finish

Got the center of the next baby quilt finished.  This is a totally scrappy quilt from scraps I had in one bag.  I posted the start of this one in the previous post.  Think I need a solid or reads solid print next.  Measures 18" square.  Need to double that for a St. Anne's quilt or only 12" for a preemie quilt.  I'll see what the leftover in the bag will accommodate.

Have a great weekend.

I Like Thursdays

I'm going to Washington state soon, so I may not be posting often, but here's some things I liked in the past week. First off, I'm liking quilts that are being posted from the Sisters' Quilt Show.

I saw this one in Lori's second post about the show. You can view it here.  This is going on my bucket list.  Love the border.  Here's another one from that same show:
Love this one also - would use the idea, not copy per se.  I need to live to be 150 years old to get all these inspiring quilts done.

And then there is this scrappy string work (may have come from the Fret Not Yourself blog). What a great way to use up those strips.

Have been indoors almost all of the past week.  We're in another scorcher period of time. Thankfully the peak of this heat wave was only 114 - but all the other days were in between 104-110.  Ughhh.
My plants are fried.

Hope it is cool wherever you are (or warm if you're south of the Equator). Do go over to Lee Anna's post of goodness for the week. Bye for Now.

Some of This; Some of That

On my design floor - a top my mother put together at our retreat in May.  I've added the last border to make it 30" - a preemie quilt size.
I now need to finish sandwiching it and do the quilting.

And on my design wall - the beginnings of another scrappy baby quilt.
I'll see where this goes.

Stay cool, my friends.

Another Friday Finish

We were unable to have our Guild's regular, fabulously fun Christmas meeting on the last month of 2017 as the hall was not available, so we had it this month as our Christmas in July Potluck. The Board asked that we bring what we were going to show last December. Here's what I would have brought ( well actually I only had the blocks made)  - a table runner.

Nothing fancy - I was learning to make those tree blocks. First one was a dud (small one in runner), but that one helped me to get the rest right. Ready for Christmas decorating.  I also had all the blocks done for two Christmas quilts. I got them into tops for the meeting, but alas, family kept me from attending. I'm sure there was a lot of Christmas cheer shared.  Our guild has a blog and photos will be posted soon of the gathering. I'll get to see what treasures were brought in then. In the meantime you might like to browse the album from previous months of quilty goodness. Go on by.

Friday Finish

Finally cooled enough to quilt, but I took it easy. I made an envelope quilt from a top my mom put together at the retreat in May.
This is a quilt for St. Anne's.   And the back:
A close-up shows it's a Beatrix Potter print.
Keeping with this minimalist quilt idea, I did wavy FMQ around the four center blocks.

It's good to be back sewing!  I'm linking to Sarah's Can I have a Whoop, Whoop? and Myra's Finished or Not Friday.

Thank God for our AC.  Here's plants not affected by the heat:

Here's a close up - aren't those flowers fabulous?

Four Days

My lovely roses are fried from the heat. Only one survived
cuz it's low to the ground and fully shaded.
of unrelenting heat!  Friday - 119; Saturday - 118; Sunday - 110.  Today they promise 105 and it may happen - the low last night was 77 - way better than the 84-85 of the last few nights.

I suffer from heat exhaustion (I had heat stroke in 2002 and now very sensitive to high heat),  and while I try very hard to stay in an air conditioned room, after a few days it starts to get to me wherever I am.  Yesterday, I started to feel the nausea and wooziness right after 8 AM mass.  We went to one store and by the time we were home at 10am, I had to lay down. Ugh.  Today, even though I could leave the windows open last night, I'm feeling it again. What to do? I drink lots of cool water, watch tv or read or sleep.  Dinners are easy things.  For instance, yesterday, I took out a P F Chang frozen entree and cooked it in a skillet. I had leftover white rice for my husband, but I put some Romaine lettuce mix on my plate and put the Orange Chicken on top of that. Great way to lower the carb count to the dish.

Sewing?  Hah! Maybe later in the week when the temps are suppose to be only in the 90s. Has to be under 96 or else still can't function.

Hope you are well. Blessings.

Some of This; Some of That

First - the destashing:  When there's not much sewing going on, there's not much destashing either. For the six blocks I made, I used .58 yards. For the larger scraps I pulled to donate to the Guild, I found 4.59 yards coming to 5.17 yards out! This gives me a  YTD total of 40.60 yds destashed out of the 50 yards I need at this time to meet my year-end goal.  First time less than 10 yards difference - woohoo.

I'm suppose to work on my UFO #11 this month - Japanese place mats, but I"m going to work on another UFO instead. It's Christmas in July! This is a table runner I started last year. Needs to be sandwiched, quilted and bound.

I'm also reporting on what I like (On I Like Thursdays) - I'm going to show you all the flowers that I saw and brightened my days.
In San Jose, downtown is festooned with colorful planters and trees in bloom.

At the mission - glorious flowers all over.
The Mission's cemetery had planting also. Very old tombstones here  - 1700s.

The Municipal Rose Garden has a magnificent stand of redwoods.
as well as glorious roses all in bloom
Roses everywhere we could see.

What did you like this week? I'd love to see.  To view other entries visit I Like Thursdays.
