Another busy week has ended, but I got a few more minutes in for quilting - yeah! I sent off a flimsie with the backing I pulled to use up 1.5 yards of stash. I also used a 1/4 yard for binding my first charity quilt for 2013 - another yeah! This is a VA lap quilt - simple and quick, but it's been waiting for me to bind since Nov. My friend Carol quilted it. It measures 36" by 45"
Here are my numbers:
This week: in 0.0 yds.; out 1.75yds.
Stash YTD: in 2.5 yds., out 3.75 yds.
Donated this week: 0.0 yds; YTD: 1.0 yds
Net
for 2013: out 1.25. I'm in the green! How are you doing? I'm linking to Judy's Patchwork Times to see how others are doing. Probably a lot
better than I - LOL.
Getting it Done for January
I accepted the Getting it Done Challenge by Judy and the Nothing but UFO's challenge by Carrie. Here's what I got done in January:
1.Piece the 4 blocks I have left to do for our Guild's Memories of Riverside BOM. Then I'll be ready for when Susan gives us the flimsie directions in February. Done!
2. Make the Easy Street units into a flimsie. 3/4ths done
3. Quilt the UFO I finally finished (started in 1997) in the last few days while I've had to sit and keep my leg elevated. no progress
4. Sandwich my Watching All the Birds Go. no progress
Judy got a lot done! Congrats, Judy - and love Addie's quilt - it's so cute. So did Carrie! What role models we have!
Judy asked how we felt about having goals. They kept me centered through this whole month that hardly gave me any time to quilt. And I can see in order to make time for life, I need to set less goals so that I can feel better at the end of the month of what got done or not. So for February, I'm only listing three goals and see how that goes.
1. Finish the Easy Street units and set them up for a QAYG project.
2. Quilt the UFO I finally finished (started in 1997) in the last few days while I've had to sit and keep my leg elevated.
3. Finish the applique on Anna's Garden Block 5 I started last year.

Applique Thursday Early
This week is so full of things I have to do that I'm calling the block below my applique for Thursday. And it does have applique - the palm trees are appliqued. The trunks are sewn down and the palm fronds are raw edge applique. I found the fronds in a novelty print for Hawaii. With the tips for using Prisma pencils from Esther Aliu, I was able to color the fronds and take out the lighting effect that they had for a night scene. I like them a lot better than the pinwheels that were called for. This is the last of the blocks I had to make for the Guild BOM - this one was for June. Now I can start gathering the fabric for turning it into a flimsie.
I may add a little more green to the fronds. This block depicts Victoria Ave with its palm trees, planting of citrus and roses that border the street. It also has stands of Eucalyptus here and there in place of the palms. It is a wonderful place to take a walk. I still have to add some more oranges to the blocks, but then it will be totally done.
I'd love to see your eye candy. My linky is below. I'm also linking to Esther's WOW to see all the eye candy there.
Oh and finally a winner of the Applique Petal Party! The random generator says it's Lisa of Quilts, Cakes and Other Fun. I'll be sending her an email tomorrow. Thanks for playing and your patience, quilters!
