WIPs Be Gone

The two baby quilt WIPs are in the final stages before quilting.  I had to piece together batting and find/iron the backs.  More on those later.

I did some applique:
Tell me what you think this is, and I'll see if I got it right color-wise.  This is for a Christmas gift, and it has to be a rectangle so I'll have to figure out what to do to make it the right size.  This is as far as I've gotten.

Are you going to Road to California, January 19th-22nd in Ontario, CA?  They are having an outreach event.  You can read about it here.  For that event I've made two blocks so far to contribute. Really like the pattern they have chosen - it's made in a neat way and was developed by Anita Grossman Solomon.  This will be a very worthy event.

These are really the light pink you can see in the blocks.
What are you up to?  Would love to see.  Link up for a chance to win some hexagon papers. Usual guidelines apply:   Leave me a comment for one chance.  Link your eye candy for another (link button below). Follow me and let me know for a third chance. Remember if you don't have a blog, you can always post a photo from a photo hosting service.  Please be sure there is some way for me to contact you. Ends next Thursday, midnight.

I'll be linking to some linky parties, including Creations...Quilts, Art...Whatever. See the tab under the header.  Oh, and I'll pick this week's winner tomorrow. Blessings!

  2. It's looking great. I love Anita's easy ways to make blocks. I have two of her books and they save so much time! I would highly recommend them to all quilters.

  3. I love the mistletoe! It seems the tradition is being forgotten by this generation, but it was a big deal back in the 60s when I was small. I remember watching the doorway where it hung to see who would be caught? I just loved it! Thanks for bringing back a good memory for me.

  5. I'm thinking a mistletoe also but something seems off. Maybe the bright coloured background and the soft toned applique are not exactly on the best of terms? I understand you said it was not done and you might have other things to add that will help these two blend together. But just thought I should mention what I think since you have asked. Personally, I won't attend the Road to California in Ontario, CA since I live in Ontario, CA... nada. It's kind of far, lol. ;^)

  6. Great mistletoe. If has to be a rectangle then maybe a block on each side with appliqued xmas bauble on each side? Have linked my latest finish, a quick baby quilt, which was done as a distraction from the double-bed-sized quilt that is my current WIP - I decided to fmq pebbles inside the blocks and, while they do look good, sometimes a gal just needs a bit of a break from too much pebbling!

  7. I immediately thought of mistletoe. Now I'm wondering if I am correct... Maybe it is a sage plant? The blob from outer space? A Christmas tree that is a bit pale and needs a bit of a suntan? Ok, I'll quit being silly. I like the pink blocks. If I didn't live on the other side of the country I would definitely go to the Ontario quilt show. I knew Carolyn when she first started her quilt store...

  8. My first thought is it's mistletoe. No, actually, my first thought was, "I wanna make that!" =) I only WISH I were going to Road! It's been quite a few years since I went - before 2010 when Paul died, for sure. Probably at least 10 years. It was the first big conference I went to, before the quilt show was part of it, and I would love to go again. Maybe I can afford it next year, but not this one. Your blocks look super. Enjoy the show and conference for me, too. Two for one, ya know. =)

  9. Anita has interesting ways of making quilts. I have one of her Craftsy classes, but I haven't actually used her process. Thanks for linking to Finished or Not Friday.

  10. Your applique block is very nicely done. It reminded me of years past. I used to buy it for our Christmas parties every year. Of course, I was much younger and a little bit shy, so it helped break the ice. lol Haven't seen it in years.

Thank you for stopping by. It's always nice to hear from you. I try to reply to each and every one of you, but sometimes life gets in the way. I hope you understand. Blessings.

All Comes to A Halt

Sighhhh....  While I was quilting I  ran my finger, somehow, under the needle. Went right through my left index fingernail right through to...
