What I've Been Up to These last Four Months

Where does the time go? What with caregiving my mom, and trying to fit 7 days into 5, I find myself always on the go. And at 79, yes, 79 I find myself more stressed than normal. But I've tried to keep up with quilting even if I only do 15 minutes a day. Not that I get 15 in every day, but I do average about 4 a week.

So, what have I been up to? I'll get my photos on my cell and share.

January:

Quilted this UFO flimsy I bought at a yard sale. It was 8 blocks that were anywhere from 8 3/4" to 9 1/2".  Made them all 9 inches and constructed the center block. Made the flimsy in 2024 but didn't get it quilted until the first month of 2025. Gave to St. Anne's as a baby quilt measuring 36" square.

February:

My guild is having a block of the month quilt along. Here is February's  blocks - hearts 12" by 10".

March:

I joined a UFO completion project ( Dive into UFOs in 2025) and this is one for March to finish - a friend's old quilt needs a little love.  I had a dickens of a time finding material to match. Didn't find any but picked some 70s fabric to add to it.

Another finish - I made this from a leader-ender work with scraps. I call it The Holy Hour. My reminder of visiting the Holy Eucharist enclosed in a monstrance. The two outer rows are people in adoration and prayer.

April:

Besides a monthly UFO to work on, we have a quarterly UFO to also work on if we get done with our monthly challenge.  Mine was Love Entwined which I started in 2011!  Adding 1/8th inch wide stems here. Needless to say, I'm behind, but I do want to work on it.

April:

For April's monthly UFO, I'm working on a baby quilt that I'm calling Jewels. Got the idea from a photo I saw on the NET.

Caught up for now. I'm linking to Wednesday Wait Loss. Give a look.

What are you working on?  Let me know and I'll come by and admire it.

Blessings,

2024 QUILT Year's End - a Review of the Quilts I made in this Year.

Goodness!  I haven't posted since May! What a slug a bed I've been.  But I have been quilting. You may notice that finishes were several months apart. I care give my Mom two days a week and that really cuts into my time, especially with the drive I have to make getting there. I'm not a fan of freeway driving. Plus I fell twice and that cut into quilting time as I had to convalesce, but all is better now as I work on my balance. So here's a recap of the quilts I've made during 2024:

First off - I bound 3 flimsies that I finished in December 2023

That first one I didn't get a photo of it bound, but it was bound and given to St. Anne's. The second one was my SAHRR for 2023, and the third was another for St. Anne's.

I had so many leftover triangles I put together this miniature in January. Measures 16 1/2" square.

Then in March, I tested a pattern for Jen of Faith and Fabric designs. She had a pattern for a complete rosary (beautiful!), but I didn't have time, so I made a rosary circlet (one decade of a rosary).

Then in June I finished off an orphan block quilt for St. Anne's. Measured 36 1/2" square.

Found again in August, and finally finished this 2023 flimsy. Made with scrap blocks and blocks of an accent fabric. Again measures 36 1/2" for St. Anne's.

I made this table runner as a housewarming gift for a friend. These were orphan blocks. She liked it and had a perfect spot for it in her living room.

In October, I made a Baby Star Quilt from a pattern by Caroline of  Sew Can She  . The pattern was free the day she posted it. It was a fun one to make for St. Anne's.

In November, I put together a  Seuss quilt made from some leftover fabric from another quilter's project for St. Anne's. The quilt was inspired by a Pat Sloan quilt for P & B Textiles called The Garden of Brambleberry Farm. Thank you, Pat.

December found me finishing/near finishing two WIPS! One a completed quilt and the other a flimsy.  The finished quilt was an orphan and scrap blocks quilt I put together. I was going to give it to St. Anne's, but I liked some of my orphan blocks so much that I decided to keep it for myself. The second quilt which is the flimsy was a project I picked up at our Guild's free table that someone decided not to finish. There were 8 Stack n Whack blocks already made and some extra material. Unfortunately, the blocks were not  the 9" they were suppose to be. Here's one before I rescued it.

I took them all apart and resewed them back together with scant quarter inch seams and then they matched. I made a 12" center block and added sashing to the blocks. Measures 37 1/2" square. Now to quilt it.

I look forward to seeing your end of the year reviews. Drop me a comment and I'll go by and see yours. Blessings,

Flimsy Coming Soon

Three days of playing with scraps and yardage. Just need 2 borders to make this a finished baby quilt flimsy. Blessings,

Back to Quilting

Back to quilting.  After my mishap, it was slow going to return to working in the sewing room. Since I could only piece, I began two more projects. One is a scrappy star quilt and one is a square in a square. And then I bought the latest issue of Quilter's World and a third quilt block was started. There are so many very nice quilts in this issue that I think I'll have a lot of ideas for more baby quilts.

Here is the scrappy star.  It's going to be a baby quilt. Five blocks done.

Here is the square in a square. Also destined to be a baby quilt.  Three blocks done.

Lastly, the Wendy Shepard quilt block from Quilter's World. You guessed it  - another baby quilt. One block done

And that one I was quilting?  It is done and off to be claimed by a low income, first time mother.  My ladies came back from the quilt shop all nicely humming with pleasure at getting cleaned, tension adjusted and needle centered.  We're back in business!

What are you up to?  Leave me a comment and I'll visit your blog. I'm linking to Finished or Not Friday and Kelly's My Quilt Infatuation. Go there to see all the goodies! Blessings,

All Comes to A Halt

Sighhhh....  While I was quilting I  ran my finger, somehow, under the needle. Went right through my left index fingernail right through to the other side. I yelled and jerked my hand back and broke the needle.  It didn't break the bone. Just came out at an angle on the other side. Blood!

After I cleaned up and doctored it, I left the sewing room for three days.  Thought I'd do some piecing. Well, the tension was shot to hell, so no sewing.  That was my Juki TL2010Q.  My Bernina Activa 130  also had a tension problem. So on I went to my Janome Harmony - my take to classes machine. Well, it runs fine but I don't have a FMQ foot for it, so that leaves me with piecing to do.

Here's as far as I got on the SAHRR:

The shop said it would two weeks until they are back. Guess I'll do a lot of piecing until then.

I'm linking to Wait Loss at Jennifer's Inquiring Quilter. Come by and see the great links other quilters have posted.

SAHRR Round 5 and 6

Ready to show rounds 5 and 6. Actually, the prompt for 5 was make 4 of something. So I chose four patch, and actually since that made my quilt 35" square, I decide to not do round 6 as it was a number or a letter, and since I had done 4 of something for round 5 felt  that it would do for round 6.

This baby quilt will be donated to our church's project for low income, first time mothers.  Now to sandwich, quilt, and bind it.

What are you up to?  Leave a message and I'll come visit and see your progress. I'm linking to Alycia's Finished or Not Friday  party. Go on by and see all the wonderful things quilters have made.
Blessings,

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
