Before the Thanksgiving

I was able to put together my 2017 Rainbow Scrap Challenge top:

All the block's are from Pat Sloan's Summer Solstice Quilt Along. I modified them to be 9" blocks instead of her various sizes to get the size quilt I needed. The fabric was whatever I had in my stash that was the color of the month - even the background. I'm learning that one does have to buy larger pieces now and then to have on hand for backgrounds. Now to think of a border.  Any suggestions?

I also was able to finish the first round of leaders and enders around my Mother Goose medallion  as I cooked and baked and visited with my DGSs #1 and 4.  Just have columns of half blocks to add to the sides now, and that baby top will be done.  I'm liking this way of using up scraps.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday or weekend. Blessings!

  1. Both very pretty quilt tops. How about simple white borders on the RSC?

  3. GOOd plan to resize the blocks for the quilt you need. And yes, I need to remember to buy larger amounts for backgrounds, too.

  5. What a wonderful RSC sampler! I'm not good at borders so no suggestions here. I usually just make more blocks to get to the size I need. I also need to remember to buy bigger pieces for backgrounds. A lot of the time that's why I have scrappy backgrounds.

  6. I love your quilts too Angie and if you have enough maybe you can use leftover strips to do a piano key border and then maybe bind it in the background shade. Or find the perfect print that has all the colours of the rainbow for a border but then you wouldn't be using up your stash!! Biggest hugs from down under x

  7. Great RSC quilt top! I’d add a white/light background border then a slightly wider border of any of the included colors (or maybe even each side a different fabric) keep it simple so as not to detract from your gorgeous blocks!

  8. I agree with Denice and Cathy that a white border would give some resting place, but you could add piano keys outside depending on your size needed, or a scrappy binding. Both are really fun quilts. Keep up the good work!

  9. No help on the border suggestions but what a pretty sampler you have! Great use of scraps in your medallion. Yes, it is helpful to have bigger cuts of neutrals.... and variety if you like scrappy. Never can have too many neutrals!

All Comes to A Halt

Sighhhh....  While I was quilting I  ran my finger, somehow, under the needle. Went right through my left index fingernail right through to...
