Some of This; Some of That 10/6/19

Sandwiched a baby quilt top - used 1.25 yds.  Finished a WIP top - used 0.25 yds.  Worked on the Seedling Quilt QAL - used 0.25 yds.  My new YTD total is 49.09 yards destashed.

Worked every day this week on quilty stuff!  So I know I have 7 of 7 days this week (100%) for 15 Minutes To Stitch 2019. And also 5 of 5 days so far this month (100%). I have no idea where I"m at for the year as I missed so many weeks of reporting.

Now for the finished WIP:
This is a pattern from Kay Mackenzie's Scrap-Applique Playground. I've had the book forever. When Lori of Humble Quilts chose to do a String Along, I decided I'd use some strings to make this sign for my sewing room.

Here's what I have left of those strings:
I'm thinking of using them to bind this wall hanging. Do you find it hard to make them disappear? I do.

I Like Thursdays and Friday Finish

I Like Thursdays has come around again.  And while there are lots of things I liked, not many photos were taken.  Here are the ones I did take.

That baby quilt?  I like that I got it done. A mistake showed up. Maybe I'll fix it and maybe I won't. Requires three seams to be done over. And yes, it is that soft and muted in real life. This was a Marti Michell all over print from maybe 20 years ago. Does anyone know?  It was given to St. Anne's. I was excited to get it until I opened it. The previous owner had fussy cut a square next to the train so it was graced with holes all over. Decided to take on the challenge and try to salvage some of the fabric. Here's what I came up with. Measures 36 1/2" by 38 1/2".

Next up is a UFO that isn't on my list, but I've been working as a Hexie a Night to make some progress. I like that I finally got the next round finished and attached to the center. I've even figured out what to do for the next round.  I'm trying to figure out how to make this EPP into a round project.
And in my quest for being more mindful for my Gentle Domesticity study, I like that I saw my jade plant that was blooming away unnoticed in my garden.  Sometimes, one has to stop, take a deep breath, be still and look around. Look how the purple wandering jew surrounds it.

I'm linking to Lee Anna's I Like Thursdays, Needle and Thread Thursdays, Confession of a Fabric Addict, Finished or Not Friday, and a few other link parties. See my list at the More tab under the header.

Blessings and good wishes for all.

Some of This; Some of That

Destashing - 2 yds for an envelope quilt,  1 yd for a backing, .25 yd for a crumb block and its backing (I can't show yet as it's part of a swap), 2.33 yds of flannel for a rag quilt, 3 yds for fat quarter games, .06 yd for my twinkle star block, .12 yd for some book marks, and 1 yd for the St. Anne's quilt top for a 9.76 yds used:
This was another scrap bag quilts - all scraps except border. That's a floral I was given years ago, and it seemed just right to me to use as a border. Measures 36" square. I used the last of a cute cat print I got long time ago. Here's a close up:

My new YTD total is  56.27 yds destashed out of the 68 yards I need at this time to meet my year-end goal. I'm packing for my trip to Missouri.  What does a quilter put into one suitcase to work on for three days at a retreat?  I'm use to taking everything but the kitchen sink when I go to local ones - lol.

I"m linking to Finish it Up Friday, Sunday Stash, Let's Make Baby Quilts, and Oh Scrap!
I'll try to figure out how to post via my cellphone.  Have a great week.

On My Design Wall

I pulled another scrap bag of bits from my closet.  Am using only fabric from this bag to make more baby quilts.
Here is the center block I came up with for another NICU quilt based on Nearly Insane block 12.
These partial blocks below were in the bag .  Another center - both centers measure 15 1/2" square.  This one I'm just going to wing it and see what comes of it.
Started my part 2 of On Ringo Lake.  Have a ways to go. My biggest hang-up is finding neutrals as I've used a ton in the past year. May have to go to a LQS - lol.
What are you up to?  Come by and I'll visit to see your work. I'm linking up to Oh, Scrap!Design Wall MondayBOMs AwayMoving it Forward, and Monday Making.

Some of This; Some of That

All I used this week was from the stash was 1/4 yd for the binding of that baby quilt. That brings my YTD total to  72.29 yds destashed.

I started quilting another baby quilt - This one I made in August, showed it at guild,
and then promptly forgot all about it as I left it in my meeting bag and never took it out. This scrappy baby quilt is so busy, I"m not trying to do much to the front. Above is the back. Just about done with the center of it.  Also I did finish my scrappy medallion baby quilt.
I used about a 1/4th of a good size trash bag of scraps for this one, so that was good.  So many scraps! Sigh.

Think tomorrow I'll just sit down in the living room and hand stitch on my hexies and applique. Would be nice to  get my circle done already.

I'm linking to Oh, Scrap and Sunday Stash. Check out their link parties - so much eye candy and news.

In the Piecing Corner

Got that baby quilt top finished:
Measures 36" square.  Ready to be sandwiched and tied at the next church meeting. The only thing I had to add to the bag contents was the last border. Some scraps left for the next one.

And in the RSC challenge - this month's color is orange! One of my favorites.

Which is Better -

flannel or fleece for a design wall?  Please let me know.  Our Jo-Ann's is having a sale of both in the next couple of days.

The giveaway for the hexagon papers is still on. Go here to sign up to win. It will end today, Thursday, midnight.

Sneaking into the sewing room a few minutes before the household is up (namely DGS #3), I've gotten a little farther on my scrap quilt:
Units not in permanent positions.  I can see a couple of trouble spots that I spotted with my camera's color accent (or sepia) setting.
Do you use this method for arranging color in your quilt layouts?  Esther Aliu (she has a lot of good tips for creating quilts as well as fabulous patterns) got me started with this way to check my fabric selections and arrangements.

Do visit my tab for linky parties above under the header to see which one's I'm linking too.  You can, too.

Blessings to you!

Design Wall Monday

Got my second quilt top for St. Anne's done.  There are 6 tube quilt leftovers in this top - all were in the scrap bag I brought home to work on.  What's a tube quilt?  You take 6 strips of fabric wof and sew them together and sew the last to the first one to make a tube. You then cut this tube into tube strips - usually the size of the width of your strip.  Turn them right side out and pick a square you want in the first row of each of them - in the order you want. Rip out the seams at top of your first row to make a column of squares. Sew these strips back together.

Here's what one looks like:

You can usually cut six columns, and lots of times there's a bit left over.  The last four columns on the right are leftovers as well as the first one and the one with the buggy print. Going up on my design wall as soon as I finish sewing it together is the next one from the bag.  I made the nine-patches today.  They came out 7.5" square. So now I have to decide what I'm going to add from the bag to make it 36" square. I'm auditioning the yellow.

Tomorrow I plan to work on my hexies, do a bit of quilting with my DSM, and start on my next 17 UFOs in 2017.  How about you?  Linking up to Judy at Patchwork Times and a couple of other linkies in the tab above. I hope you get to sew today. I'm linking to Cynthia's Oh Scraps.

Design Wall Monday 1/9/12

First pieced block for the Just Take 2 Quilt.  You can learn about it at the red and white button on my sidebar.  Have 4 more to do and 2 appliqued blocks.  I've decided to make mine scrappy with as much of the background the same as I can get from the piece I found in my stash.  I'll use the colors in the sparse background print to pull fabrics for the piecing.  On the whole, I want to use only 2 fabrics per block.  The quilt will be offered in four parts, so I'm not sure if I want to make four small quilts or the 78" by 90(?) that it will be.  Guess it depends on if I keep up with the blocks or not.  I would have loved to have made it red and white, but I don't have the 9 yards of white it takes nor the 6 of red to make it all the same.  And since I want to reduce my stash --scrappy it is.

Go on over to Judy's Patchwork Times and see what others have on their design wall.  I really like how participating in this keeps me moving forward in my quilting.  How did you do?

Design Wall Monday 8/16

These blocks WERE on my design wall last week, but I was unable to take a picture to show you.  So in the past week, I put Judy Laquidara's Scraps Ahoy blocks together and came up with another preemie top.  Now the purpose of the pattern was to use up scraps.  Well I had so many scraps left over from cutting the sizes suggested, I decided to use them for the back of this quilt, and for a time I entertained finding some plain back material and make two quilts, but then I just broke down and used the material I made with the scraps as the back.  It's the second picture.  Thanks for the pattern, Judy.  You can see it at her blog Patchwork Times which a button for it is located on the sidebar.

Design Wall Monday 5/24

Here's what I've done so far on my scrap coverlet. Not much but at least I got once around the medallion dresden block with some strips I had and some red larger leftover squares. It measures more true as a rectangle now.  Phew!  I have an idea for this week of what to look for, but first I have to decide how I am going to quilt this row around the middle. Any suggestions of what you would add would be greatfully appreciated.

Design Wall Monday

Okay, here is what I have on my design wall (err make that carpet)or had that is. One orphan block - well, actually I have 13, but I've come up with a design for the other 12 and are approximately 17" squarish, so that makes this an orphan. I've decided to make a coverlet(that's a quilt without batting) as a summer throw. This is going to be totally from my scraps. In keeping with that I've picked an old curtain of which you can see the back under the dresden plate block. I got that at a fabric swap as I really liked the print. So first order of business is to machine applique the block to the center of the backing. Yes, this will be a "quilt as I find to add".

UFO #2

Okay, I finally got UFO #2 done, albeit two months overdue, but it is done. I love log cabin designs, but after making two, I don't like making them. Sooooo, I came up with a simplified one. Someone may have come up with this before me, but I can't remember who or if I saw it in a mag or book - I read of lot of them and if you'd like to see a partial list of my quilt books, you can go to http://www.angiesbookshelf.com/ to see them under the keyword quilting. So here is my version of furrows: I just kept grabbing from my stash to make this scrappy version. The little blue squares are fusible raw edge applique. I wanted to try another all over quilting pattern and chose baptist fan. It quilted quickly and was easy to do going from side to side. You can see the quilting in the light areas. This quilt measures about 40 X 48. I was happy it used up some big size scraps!
I'm finishing the quilting on UFO #3 and I'll be able to show it to you once I get back from Puerto Rico.
Quilting leads to contented hearts.
Bye for now!

Progrees is Made

Progress is made, at least some.  More blocks were added to the baby quilt I was working on (see previous post). More scraps were used. I...
